Racist Behavior! - Edit
I had read so many positive reviews about Gelato On The Danny that I traveled 20 minutes just to try their ice cream. Unfortunately, what I experienced was incredibly disappointing, upsetting, and outright racist. While eating, we found a plastic wrapper in our ice cream. When we politely brought this to the attention of the staff, instead of apologizing, one of the owners laughed, smirked, and said, "I have every right to laugh." The rudeness didn’t stop there—they screamed at us to leave the shop while we were still discussing the issue. To make matters worse, they even threatened us, saying, "I dare you to write a one-star review—watch what we will do to you then."

It’s hard to believe such unprofessional and disrespectful conduct exists at a place that’s supposed to serve the community. I certainly won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially people of color.

Vegan gelato served by the nicest people! - Edit
Gelato on the Danny is the most delightful mom-and-pop establishment I've ever encountered. The couple who run it are so friendly and kind, and very conscious of dietary restrictions. They have an entire separate case of roughly 10 dairy-free gelato flavours, which rotate regularly. Everything is delicious and creamy -- it's real gelato, not the watery sorbet usually offered as "the one vegan option" at other places. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place!!

The gelato here is incredible. Do yourself a favour and skip the gelaterias in Greektown & head here instead.
Read moreThey have an entire separate case of vegan flavours which rotate as they sell out. This is proper vegan gelato, no sorbets here. I've been back several times now to try the different flavours, so far the winners are nocciola and pompelmo.
The family that owns this is also super friendly. Always check in with new customers to see if they can eat dairy.
