The menu sounded a lot better than it tasted but maybe it was an off day and I’d happily give them another try as vegan sushi is awesome!

From the moment we arrived and slipped onto a comfy bench seat and handed a bowl of complimentary vegetable broth I was at ease. The food was incredible but my stomach was upset from too much gluten during the day. We asked on the way out if we could buy some more vegetable broth and the chef said that they don’t sell it but to hang on and returned with 2 portions in eco take out containers. Honestly it was the kindest gesture and really topped off the whole experience. We will return whenever in Melbourne.

A very flavourful experience, the vanilla sake was astonishing and we went with the feed me option and it’s a generous and diverse selection, the plant based salmon is a must try.

Read moreThe vibe is cosy and warm and of course welcoming, especially as you're greeted as you walk through the door - due to the cold weather the waiter was even kind enough to give us each a bowl of warm mushroom broth to keep us going till we order.
Amazing selection and great portions, highly recommend for vegans looking for something new!

The change from Green Burger to Future Izakaya has reshaped the menu but still brought the best mock chicken along to make the Katsu Chickn.

We loved our food. Although, no glasses for water, no napkins, no dipping bowl for sushi (empty bottle of soy too) one main came out, then the other three dribbles out over an hour from there. My nigiri was forgotten about until we printed waiter. Also one waiter for a Saturday night, very busy.

I saw some back and forth on HC that Green Burger had changed into an izakaya and had to investigate. It was everything I had always wanted from GB - indoor seating, real plates and a more interesting menu. The Future Sushi sign remained, which I think was for recognisability. I decided to go in for lunch by myself and ordered the RFC ramen chicken burger, which was very nice, even given the mock chicken fillet, and I was stuffed after eating it. The lotus chips that came with it were not the crisps you typically see but a bit thicker, which was an interesting change for me. I was so excited I went back with a companion for dinner. We ordered the crab sushi and the katsu curry don. The sushi was fine, not quite bursting with flavour or offering any surprises. The curry was tasty but simple, with not a huge array of vegetables. I ordered a margarita with dinner, and was a bit surprised to discover it was frozen. It was fine but a bit slushy-like because of its sweetness. There is a nicer, more social vibe to the restaurant now, and I look forward to having more dinners here in the future.

Usually I would eat 3 nori rolls at a time but 1 Korean roll from Future Sushi was more than enough at lunch time, which is a good thing when you pay $10 - $12 each. The bulgogi “beef” was some of the “meatiest” mock I’ve ever tasted - and I’ve eaten a lot! Creamy mayo, funky kimchi, and spring onion rounded out the flavours. Keen to try the panko chicken, Peking duck and tempura enoki rolls. I’m not a fan of fake fish (never liked seafood) but the salmon looked dry to me.

I had been hanging out to go here for a long time and ot did not disappoint! I got the future tuna pack and crumbed chicken style pack (forgot the exact name). The spicy mayo and plain mayo was beautifully flavoured, rice perfectly cooked and mock meats and fish were very convincing. It was so nice to have vegan sushi that was convincing and tasty.
