Best vegan street food

I've been here a bunch of times over the last year and tried the dirty kebab, all of the tacos, and most recently the cajun chicken burrito. I have always been so impressed by everything about this place! The food is always amazing quality, big portions and the chef is great too.

Pros: Great food , Reasonably priced , Big portions

Best tacos

Have only had the chance of visiting once but I loved the tacos. They were out of one of the options when I went but the lovely guy working the bar recommended getting two of the “chicken” and I was not disappointed. Love that you can grab a cheeky pint at the same time.

Pros: Great food, Good prices

Not quite as amazing as I remembered

I raved about this place in my last review, and certainly the tacos here are superior to pretty much any other place in Melbourne, but this visit wasn’t so impressive. We had the misfortune of coming on open mike night, but I’ll try not to hold that against the restaurant. I shared the two burgers - the Southern Soul chicken burger and the Big Cheese (both $16.50) - and both were a bit lacklustre, the chicken one slightly less so. Portion size was generous, with a huge serving of chips I had to work to finish (although I helped another companion with her taco), so if you don’t have my big appetite you might order something smaller. Avoid Thursday evenings unless your friend is playing. Keeps a star for my memory of the tacos.

First visit during the new weekend hours. Today we had the nachos and Southern Soul Burger again. Tasty, filling and great value as always.

Sept 2019:
Enjoyed the Southern Soul Burger again and decided to try the Spicy Beaf & Beans Tacos. Both good, but out of the tacos, I preferred the 'Crispy Chuckn' flavour.

August 2019
The Big Cheese is a very tasty burger with lots of sauciness going on. Another excellent burger that leaves the other vegan burger bars for dead. The Dirty Kebab was also very well flavoured although less filling than the burgers. Saying that, the generous side serve of chips easily takes care of any hunger pangs.

August 2019
The southern soul is easily the best burger out there at the moment; featuring a substantial patty/fillet with a nice amount of salad, a heat packing chipotle mayo, and accompanied by a very generous chip portion.

The nachos were also very enjoyable; the smokey cheese sauce was a tasty point of difference and there were enough toppings to finish all the chippies.

June 2019
Very tasty food at decent prices. I usually avoid ordering tacos out as they are often unimaginative and overpriced; these were quite the opposite! The Southern Fried Crispy Chucken was the standout for me. The Big Frank hotdog had a mustardy punch and the chip portion it comes with is surprisingly large (good value for the two at $16). The cheese sauce/corn chip side was a little lacking in flavour, however.

No fink. 6 out of 5.

5th visit Jan 2020: Southern soul burger with chips, and nachos. All good, very hard to beat, few even come close. Would be great to see some menu changes in the near future though.

4th visit Sept 2019: Panhead Quickchange XPA, Two Birds Pale Ale, Nachos, Southern Soul Burger, Spicy Bead and Beans Tacos.
I enjoyed the Panhead more than most beers and will hopefully seek it out again. This is one of the rare places that I will order Nachos and even rarer for tacos. Most eateries offer very average Nachos and pathetic tacos at a high price. Friend & Faux knows what they are doing. I definitely prefer the chickun tacos, but as we had the Southern soul (chickun) burger, we decided on some variety with the tacos. Definitely too much food for the 2 of us, especially considering the decent serve of chips that come with the burger.
3rd visit Aug 2019: Kebab and The big cheese burger, yet again very good, yet again putting the other vegan burger places to shame on every level. Green Burger, Henry's and LOTF need to visit before their customers do!

2nd visit July 2019: Nachos & Southern Soul burger, both very good as were the chips accompanying the burger, perfectly cooked and a generous serving.
Another diner had the kebab which looked good (bigger than the photo on Facebook suggests)

1st visit June 2019: Very impressed with the pub Barton Fink and the food by Friend & Faux.
Great atmosphere and decent food at a decent price coupled with good and fast service.
While the hot dog was not particularly to my liking, it was of decent size, well presented and came with a very decent amount of perfectly cooked chips (far too rare). The 2 tacos were well flavoured, sized and presented and were accompanied by clearly fresh guacamole and salsa.
The corn chips and hot cheese were also of more than decent quantity, the cheese could have had a touch more flavour for my liking though, but a variety of dips are also available which would work well with this dish.
Definitely a welcome addition to the area and these new businesses are a sure sign that the reality is catching up with the reputation of Melbourne being a very vegan friendly city.

Beautiful food and friendly chef

My friend and I went here for dinner, its actually at a bar, it would be a great place for a birthday and some drinks.
I ordered the tacos which were delicious and a good size portion, my friend had the kebab which she loved too.
The chef was able to make all the tacos Gf though one of them had Oats in the sauce so if your celiac make sure you specify.
The chef was super nice so I really hope this business does well ❤️
Please visit!

Pros: Friendly chef, Reasonably priced

Cons: None

Friendly fun

This much needed vegan bar is a recent addition to the Melbourne scene. Great food! I enjoyed the tacos. Tried three types and they were all different and tasty. The burger was amazing, in a beautifully warmed bun. Tap beers, decent cocktail list and comfy lounge.
Great space and nice service.
