Best place in Williamsburg for dietary restrictions - Edit
We recently took a trip to Williamsburg and quickly became frustrated with the lack of restaurants serving food for those with dietary restrictions (vegan AND gluten free). Food for thought has vegan and gluten free options or substitutes for nearly every option on the menu. It was so nice not to have to string together side dishes to make a meal. We ended up going back three days in a row and we each got a different meal, appetizer and dessert each day! Additionally, the staff was so knowledgeable about vegan lifestyle I learned about products that I will be buying and trying for my own kitchen. Would highly highly recommend for anyone in the area!!

Love this place! - Edit
Ate here 3 times in 4 days we were in Williamsburg(2 dinners and 1 lunch). Tried different options each time I was there and could go back and still have more options. Loved that the servers ask if there are any allergies or dietary restrictions. Would definitely go back if ever in Williamsburg again.

Great Vegan Options! - Edit
This was the second time I ate here and I was even more impressed this time than the first. Staff are all very alert and focused on the job at hand and while I rarely listen to their advice in menu select, I found the knowledge base of our server Darrel, whom spoke from experience of the menus options having sampled everything on the menu at least twice. My Vegan burger was FABULOUS, he offered to bake the fries and had some flatbread brought out with tomato and basil, loved that too. We finished up with a Berry Hazelnut Tort, also a home run. Spoke to the owner who has an incredible story of his own, building the establishment with no financing or monied backers went from waiter to business owner with nothing short of sweat equity and staff who followed his lead. If your looking for squirrel powered generators or solar power, editable trash bags or carbon credit certificates at the door, you may be disappointed, but if it’s good food for a mixed group of diet or lack of diet requirements your at the right place. We will be back!!

Cons: Crowded (but that’s your fault), Limited parking, your fault, should have walked

As a vegan, human and environmentalist I was horrified. - Edit
will set aside my feelings for the food for a second and instead focus on the shocking amount of styrofoam, plastic and plastic bags that my takeout order came in. For three orders, we got four large styrofoam boxes lined with thin tinfoil that, when cut on, would get in your food. They then included several styrofoam cups with various sides sealed inside another styrofoam container. The butters and plastic utensils were also included in small plastic bags. Come on, seriously? This one order contained enough plastic for a year and even then we must stop using plastic.
Read moreMy family and I will never return, even to eat in the restaurant unless responsible and dramatic steps are taken to address this environmental nightmare.
Oh, the food was good but horribly soggy because whenever you put hot food in so much sealed plastic and styrofoam it has no other choice. Shame because when we last ate in house everything was fantastic. Shame.
Cons: Use a gross amount of plastics, styrofoam and foil

Great Food, Educated Staff - Edit
This restaurant is such a welcome find. I don’t live in the area but go to Williamsburg a few times a year, so glad to find a restaurant with plentiful vegan and gluten free options. The staff wasn’t overly friendly but very knowledgeable. They even offered me vegan and gluten free toast since I couldn’t enjoy the bread with the rest of my table. The portobello stack was fantastic, can’t wait to go back and try another one of the many menu options!

So happy ! - Edit
The staff here was great. Mention that you are vegan and they bring out an additional vegan bread appetizers with the other(contains dairy) bread for the rest of your party. They know about all the food and what is vegan or can be made vegan. When they brought out my plate the server said the name of the dish and added, “entirely vegan” for good measure. How refreshing! I wish every “American” restaurant treated me this way. Can’t wait to go back.

Great addition to a Williamsburg visit. Interesting decor and fun atmosphere. Identified ourselves as vegan and the server offered several options. I went with the portabello stack which comes with cheese but they subbed that out with vegan cheese. Delicious and not overpriced.

Fun high concept and nice food! - Edit
Not only is FFT an interesting, high-concept eatery, the food is great! They even have Mind Trap cards right there at the table so you and your pals can solve mysteries together while grubbing on good vegan fare! There is an interesting vibe here and the Americana is irresistable.
Read moreI ordered their lentil burger (BEWARE nut allergens in the faux meat burger) and the servers were polite when I asked about allergens. The bread is not vegan but it's scrumptious and warm!
The burger was really tasty, if a little dry in some places. The patty itself was tasty, but lacked moisture occassionally. Thankfully the toppings evened out the flavour profile.
The sweet potato fries were breathtaking! The dipping sauce wasn't to my taste, but it was still adequete.
Pros: Yummy vegan burger options, High-concept, thinking person's eatery, Fun experience
Cons: Not nut-allergen friendly

Cute theme, poor food - Edit
While their theme & decor were consciously interesting, their food was not. Neither fresh nor well presented, there are much better (albeit limited) offerings in the area.
Read moreWe heard a waiter describe the menu to other diners as comfort food. (I assumed the waiter didn't understand how negative that remark can be taken, or did he?)
I would never dine there again, I found the food so poorly prepared & overpriced.
Pros: a few vegan options

A Favorite in Williamsburg - Edit
I have been here multiple times over several years. It is a must stop restaurant when we go to Williamsburg. Their portabella stack is amazing and such a huge portion! They have multiple vegetarian options for me but I always go with my trusted favorite.

Amazing! - Edit
I had such an amazing experience dining here! I have been twice and both times were incredible. Delicious food and very attentive, friendly service who are willing to accommodate any dietary requests. They even brought me complimentary bread that had no cheese on top! The manager came over to check up and make sure I had enjoyed my meal. I even got a 5% discount card for next time and will definitely come back whenever I am driving through the area!

great service and great food selections - Edit
Our family visited this restaurant and was most impressed by our server Brandy and the manager. We were looking for vegan options and they went out of their way to accommodate our several needs. Hubby was seeking vegan and low sodium. So the manager offered him a meal that was specially made for him and not an option on the menu. I had the Thai it on meal and it was awesome. Wherever chicken is offered on the menu it can be replaced with Gardein chicken, plant based. Absolutely great service with Lots of vegetable options.

Friendly and cute! - Edit
Williamsburg has surprisingly few options for a college town, and breakfast has been one of the hardest vegan meals for us to find when travelling. So we were pleasantly surprised to find the tofu scramble here. They even had smart balance for the toast and almond milk for the coffee. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The portions were huge!

From the Occasional Visitor - Edit
For a town where vegan options are limited... well, nicer dinner options for vegans that's not just salad, Food for Thought is definitely one of my favorites. The staff is so warm and welcoming and especially knowledgeable about the menu from my experience. My favorites are the cilantro lime chicken (substitute with vegan chicken) and the raspberry hazelnut torte which is all vegan, gluten free and absolutely amazing. Also -- if you are vegan, be sure to let your server know as the dinner rolls and butter are not vegan.

Worth The Wait - Edit
My husband & I really enjoyed our meal here. The wait for a table was about 45mins, but it was worth it. Our server was very helpful & suggested some vegan options. Instead of the regular bread basket, she brought me the flatbread which was vegan. As my entree I got the "Ultimate Vegetarian", (which was actually vegan). It's 1/2 of a spaghetti squash roasted & topped w/ pine nut pesto. It also comes with Jasmine mushroom rice. The best part is they offer a vegan dessert option, a raspberry hazelnut torte which was delicious. They also offer almond milk for coffee. I highly reccomend this place ????

Great veg food in a mostly non-veg town. - Edit
Williamsburg, VA is a wonderful place to visit. It's full of history and culture, as well as tons of tourist attractions. However, for the East Coast, it's one of the LEAST veg-friendly areas possible. This problem is readily cured at FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I've been to this restaurant twice, and do not understand why it isn't rated higher on Happy Cow. It's about the BEST place in Williamsburg, with fantastic food, house-made vegan/vegetarian options that are truly delicious and unique, and wonderful service/ambiance. Highly recommend.
