Friendly and good flavor

Granted we were there during Covid, the gentleman that was there was very friendly and patient in explaining everything to us. He said that all of the vegetarian dishes didn't have any animal products, so they were all vegan. I got the combo with 4 different dishes from Kenya and they were all really good.

Pros: Lots of options, Friendly owner(?)

The food is delicious

The food is delicious and the service is chill. There were many vegan options. The place looked over all very clean. It’s a small locally owned restaurant. Be prepared to eat with your hands.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Delicious, Friendly service

Absolutely delicious!

The service is t much to write home about, but we don’t care, it’s more about the food. I think we came before the dinner rush so we were the only ones in there and had trouble getting anyone’s attention. We ordered 2 of the 4 item veggie combo plates and they combined it into one giant plate. The server recommended the arrowroot dish and it turned out to be our favorite one! We also really liked the lentil ones and split yellow pea. Overall, so tasty and we’ll be adding more Ethiopian food to our repertoire!

Pros: All veggie items are vegan

Dirty

Went here for Ethiopian food but did not end up eating here because of the roaches. When I made the waiter aware, the waiter stated it is due to a roach infestation within the building complex. Gross.

Cons: Unsanitary

Mistake

I am giving this place two stars because they messed up on my order. I ordered the veggie sambusas and they brought me the meat ones. Not knowing that, I ate a bite and a half before I noticed the meat inside. I was so shocked because I had just eaten meat! I should have checked it before hand, but the waiter was so kind and nice (why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1) and he seemed to know our needs as vegans (went with friend). Fortunately, my friend didn't have any. I soon showed the waiter the problem and they brought out the right ones. Although, the person that served them seemed as if she didn't want to be there. They did apologize. I know it may have been an honest mistake... But still, I'm not happy about it. Now when I go to non-vegan places, I'll have to check my food all the time, despite the waiter knowing our needs.

Pros: nice waiter

Cons: check food for meat when you order veggie food, servers were unenthusiastic compared to waiter

Excellent Food & Service

My wife and I had a delightful time at Fasika. It was her first experience with Ethiopian food, but I have enjoyed it many times in NYC and DC. Our server (probably Charles, the owner, mentioned in other reviews here) loves to kid around, but also offers many helpful tips for newbies. The menu offers many vegan choices. We shared a four item sampler, mixing two from the Ethiopian page and two from the Kenyan. My favorite was yellow split peas, spicy and flavorful. Collard greens, lentils, eggplant were also good. The injera bread provides the utensil, and that was good too. Wish we had one of these in our town, guess we'll have to visit Fresno more often. I would give it five stars, but Happy Cow only does that for all-vegan restaurants, which this is not.

Pros: Friendly service, Tasty Food, Reasonable prices

A Vegetarian and Vegan Flavor Paradise!

By the time Charles, Fasika's fabulous owner came to our table, my lunch partner and I had already perused the menu and decided we had no idea what to order. We had however, noticed the various combination sizes and knew that if we ordered the 4-item combo platter ($14.95-- what an amazing deal!), we could select 2 different dishes each to try! We were decidedly gratefully there was a "4-item" combo available instead of the usual maximum 3-item combo offered at most restaurants. I'd say that is the first important topic to report in this review.
The next important topic to note is that in addition to the first listings of Ethiopian cuisine on the menu, don't miss the Kenyan items offered towards the back of their large menu. They are equally worth consideration and every bit as delicious as their Ethiopian selections. On this visit, Charles described the differences in the flavor of their country's special Ethiopian Tosigne Green Tea. I have to say I'll definitely be ordering it again AFTER I try the Kimen Cinnamon Spice Tea that Charles also recommended.
As we were waiting for our beverages, we were excited to preselect some menu items for our combo that we were anxious to try, but still had no idea which ones to actually select. I think what I love most about Charles besides his amusing banter with us is the immense love of sharing his vast knowledge of food and the Ethiopian Culture. Along with this man's unending patience in answering all of our numerous questions (and silly quips which made him chuckle too), Charles helped confirm and guided our selections within our Vegetarian and Vegan desires.
I don't know which one I loved most, but our four selections consisted of the #1 Ethiopian Sambusas (appetizer), #5 Ethiopian Tekil Gomen (mild cabbage and potato entree), #6 Ethiopian Gomen (mild collard greens entree), and #34 Kenyan Ndegu (mung beans entree). These 4 fabulous items came beautifully displayed on a platter adorned with lovely rolls of injera bread (see photo). We had such a ball trying to balance our "scoops" of food on the injera bread and then attempting to eat it. There must be some kind of Ethiopian trick to consuming it all!
We had such a good time taking in all that Charles our waiter and "tour guide" presented us with that day. It's so exciting to have the time to bask in the warm invitation that is extended to every Fasika visitor who enters this magical place of good food and excellent hospitality. I strongly suspect the visitors who spend the time to get to know the exquisite menu and owner at Fasika, will fast become "regulars" here. Cheers to you and your adventuresome establishment, Charles!
