Nice find

Happened to pass by here and wandered in they sell mushrooms as well. Some of the reviews said meat I didn’t see any. It’s mostly vegetarian and they’re four vegan options. We opted for the lions mane Louisiana style spicy sandwich. It did have a slight kick but was not spicy. I wish it was more crispy but had good flavor the pickles were nice . I wish it had a bit more to balance the sandwich. I would order again.

Mushrooms yum, but sells meat!

I like the mushroomy vibe here and the burgers hit a good note, at about $20 for a combo of burger, chips and kombucha.

🚨 Big red flag though as I discovered their market selling salami, so don’t support this restaurant over any other omni place that caters to vegans.

Many Mushroom Options

Love the variety of mushrooms that Far West Fungi offer to the masses. As a plant-based eater, mushrooms become a focal point of my diet to incorporate textured variety in my meals.

I love the options of fresh and dried mushrooms here as well as their hot menu offerings. There isn't a whole lot of space inside to actually dine in, so you're better off grabbing it to-go and taking it somewhere to enjoy.

On a cold fall day, I went for a side of their Vegan Gumbo ($8) which incorporates their famed mushrooms along with vegan sausage and veggies in a spicy stew. Rice is included in the side but no greens unless you order a full bowl. I quite enjoyed the gumbo although I found it a bit on the saltier side. Still, the option is fantastic and I would order again if I'm downtown.

I am curious to try their other items including their fried mushroom burger someday. I will definitely be back to consume more mushroom goodness.

Mushrooms!

We had the vegan (at the time) Mushroom Moco Loco burger, Muppa Mushroom Zuppa Soup and the vegetarian Mushroom Mufaletta. All were nicely done. The place is mostly a store, but there is some counter seating. Service was friendly.

2 Vegan Options

This isn’t really a sit down restaurant, when I went they only had two vegan options of loco moco or soup, it is a cute store

Small portions but creative menu items

The menu changes when I went the vegan options were poke, soup and loco moco. No vegan dessert which was a bummer but they said they were working on it. The food is flavorful but my dishes came with rice and there wasn’t enough rice which meant I wasn’t full. Room for improvement but it’s a new restaurant so hopefully it will get better.

Delicious!

Mushroom centric seasonal cafe menu (see menu photo from November). Very high quality ingredients; the food is layered with flavor & delicious.

Quality vs quantity: four out of six menu options were vegan, the other two vegetarian. Very reasonably priced & felt like a deal considering how good the food is. Highly recommend the mushroom bisque soup paired with one of the toast options.

The store front is primarily a fresh mushroom market with counter seating cafe on the side. Assortment of mushroom goodies for sale ranging from truffle hot sauce, shitake jerky, etc. Modern & clean decor. Sales people were very generous with their time answering questions regarding what type of fresh mushrooms to buy & verbally shared the recipe on how to make the soup myself at home.

This is the same family business as the one in the San Francisco Ferry Building. Exciting that they are now in Santa Cruz.

Pros: Delicious, High quality ingredients , Reasonably priced for excellent food

Cons: Street meter parking
