Lovely spot/delicious cakes - Edit
We came here for lunch but sadly they had sold out of lunch food by the time we arrived which must be testament to the quality of the food.

A lovely small restaurant in this beautiful little town. Thoughtful and inventive meals using local produce. Fresh and delocious. An unexpected gem in this area. They keep the menu simple, 2 starters 2 mains 2 desserts. Ideal if 2 of you, one of everything!

This is a gorgeous lunch and tea/coffee place in the centre of Sare, on a quiet square and a short (10min) drive from La Rhune train station.
Read moreThe menu focuses heavily on local vegetables and grains, and is changed (about) weekly according to available vegetables. You get to choose from 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts, but you can take just one dish if you want.
We tasted everything on the menu (see picture) except the hummus starter and everything was beautifully presented. The dishes were also offering interesting combinations of tastes, textures and colours.
The desserts were incredible, it would be a big mistake not to stop for at least a tea/coffee and cake, if you happen to drive close by.
The restaurant is stylish and cosy, the terrace small and cute. The service is calm and friendly, a little bit on the slow side as there is just one person cooking and serving, but the Ephemeride is an experience to enjoy with no hurry, so it’s perfect.
The price-value ratio is very good, considering the freshness of the ingredients and the sophistication of the dishes: 6e for starter/dessert, and 15e for fairly copious mains. (April 24)
I strongly recommend adding this vegan stop to your journey.
Beware of opening hours: at present it’s open Thu-Sun (10:30-18:30) and you may consider booking ahead, especially in high season.

Un oasis vegano en kilómetros a la redonda - Edit
Vale la pena visitarlo si estás por el Valle del Baztán o el País vasco francés. Importante ir sin prisa, está regentado por una chica joven amable que hace todo casero, y es normal que los platos lleven su tiempo.
