Most vegan options in birmingham! - Edit
I really love all the great vegan options here: pita, hummus, several salads and veggies and falafel. I sometimes buy it and eat all week. I’ve been to other Mediterranean restaurants in town but the smell of meat was overwhelming.

Delicious! - Edit
We decided to try Eli's as it's close to our apartment and had marked vegan/vegetarian options. After a busy day at work, this hit the spot! I had the Shakshuka (vegetarian), and my boyfriend had the falafel pita sandwich (vegan). We both agreed this is some of the best Mediterranean food we've ever had.

Vegan, gluten free options with big portions - Edit
We stopped here on a long road trip and were glad to find this place with vegan and gluten free options. We got huge portions, food was ready fast, and we were definitely full. We had leftovers for 2 days! Perfect on a road trip. That said, the food was okay and seemed healthy, but it was quite flavorless. I don't think they used any salt on anything we got. I am cool with that, I mean, salt isn't great for you, but if I wanted to eat that way I would have made my own food. Overall we had a good experience though! Worth a visit.

Winner! - Edit
We we’re driving through Birmingham and decided to try Eli’s. We ordered the delicious “vegetarian plate”(actually vegan)! The pita bread was thick and so tasty! My favorite was the falafel drizzled with tahini.

Delicious! - Edit
My fiancée and I (both vegan) each got a vegetarian platter and sodas. We checked that the red cabbage salad was vegan since the menu still says it has mayonnaise in it. Now it is a vinegar based salad and is delicious. Everything was fresh and tasted awesome. The staff was very friendly too! Our whole meal was less than $30 total for more than enough food.

delicious food - Edit
I ordered the “vegetarian plate” which the owner said was actually vegan but that menu hasn’t been updated. Everything was absolutely delicious. I also had the Turkish coffee which was great. I will be going again next time I’m in town.

oh so yummy - Edit
We had the vegetarian (vegan) option. It was so yummy and filling. I took home left overs. The cabbage salad is vegan now because they no longer use mayo to make it. I. Am traveling and will probably eat here again on my way home. My meal for 2 was less than $30.

Vegan easy - Edit
This place is standard Mediterranean fare of the falafel variety. When it comes down to it, this is one of the best veg choices in Birmingham, even if it is out of the main downtown. There are a good half dozen vegan options- falafel, fries, cooked beet salad, Israeli salad, cooked carrot salad and roasted red peppers salad. Pretty filling!! Good choices!! Overall- awesome for Birmingham.
Read moreHowever, if you are so disgusted by meat's presence, be warned they have shawarma- two huge spinning vertical spits of meat right behind the register.
Still, I guess there is good, too, in that this place is super busy and packed. This makes the food fresh.
Casual atmosphere, cafe style, with great service. The staff are moving nonstop! Good to tip generously.
Pros: Vegan friendly, Fresh and fast, Fair prices
Cons: Meat shawarma

Fresh local yummy - Edit
I was initially a little hesitant to go to Eli's as I didn't really know what they had to offer or if they even knew what vegetarian was. The owner is very knowledgeable about different diets and strives to keep items separate. The food is very good, fresh, and mostly locally sourced. They have the best pita bread I've ever had. It's warm, soft, and thick with a really good flavor. Many of their salads I had never even heard of, but were a fresh delight when paired with falafel. My boyfriend's vegetarian parents say it reminds them of their trip to Israel. You also get a lot of food on your plate. I always have leftovers. If you're looking to get full, but not feel heavy, go here.
