Recently Renovated and Upscale Vegetarian Dining!

Elaine's used to be quite a rustic lake side restaurant, now its been completely renovated and redone with a new upscale menu (mostly vegan, egg and milk is stated in ingredients). It has an amazing outside patio with a comfy and homey interior.

The food has a range of healthy traditional Asian dishes plus more Western style junk food, everyone will be happy and satisfied! They love using mock meats, but have more whole food options too. My favourites were the mushrooms, pumpkin stew, Japanese tofu and sweet potato mango cake.

A definite must go if you're in Beijing.

Pros: Wide range of options, Delicious and high quality food, Beautiful lakeside location

Cons: Hard to get to without a car , May be too many options, hard to pick what to orde

delicious chinese food made vegan

I just finished the duck, the fish, sausage and green beans. Yes, the ‘meat’ dishes are vegan. In their extensive menu there is only one or two dishes that contain dairy. The rest is vegan and really good. Very nice restaurant and cool location near a lake! I was alone and food came out quickly. One of the ladies there scan speak some english and everyone was really nice!! Taxi to the airport was about 48yuan

Pros: close to the airport

Cons: maybe a bit pricey

Not a vegan restaurant, just vegan friendly.

Visited Elaine's last week. The restaurant is situated beside a small lake, with nice view, though a bit out of the way. The price is a bit more expensive than the usual vegetarian restaurant but the food portion is big which justify the dearer price. The waitress is keen in giving advice but faces shortage of manpower when the weekend lunch time crowd arrives. However, we found cheese and dairy products used in several dishes. Vegan beware! They can only be consider as a vegan friendly restaurant.

Pros: nice surrounding, non-smoking area available

Cons: slow

Wonderful lakeside restaurant in Shunyi

The restaurant is quite far from the city centre, but if you find yourself in Shunyi, then you must stop by Elaine's. The food is delicious, my kids love the sausages and sizzling black pepper steaks. The spicy chicken and flaming tofu are delicious. The staff are attentive and the owner, Elaine, is very friendly and speaks English. It is a beautiful setting, in a courtyard with a nicely decorated garden, views of the lake and an outdoor trampoline plus an indoor playroom for kids. It has become our family's favourite restaurant.

Pros: Excellent food, Beautiful setting, Friendly staff

Cons: Far from downtown
