One of the very few Denia restaurants that understand "Vegan" - Edit
Although this restaurant also serves meat & fish, the owners/cooks understand that vegan dishes are not “normal dishes with animal proteins taken out”, but well thought out vegetal protein-based recipes.
Read moreThis is what you find at El Secreto de Loreto: a CHOICE of a few tapas/starters and salad (6+3), mains with tofu or Heura (4) and desserts (4) that are vegan. A few extras dishes can be made as vegan upon request.
So you get to make your own menu with some variations, even if you are in a group with all-eaters or if you come more than once (which you might do, given that there are so few proper vegan options in Denia).
They actually serve their vegan aioli to ALL their customers, and no one complains (or notices… I asked!)
I had the Wok Secreto de Loreto (16,50 e) with Heura, the portion was tasty and HUGE. I still could not resist a dessert and had the vegan brownie, that was served with warm with ice-cream, delicious and also quite a large serving (6e).
The setting is warm, the decoration researched in a not-in-your-face way, so it does not look like just-any-place. It suits just as well for lunch or dinner, for eating with a date or a bunch of friends/family. It is quite spacious. Dog accepted.
Service was polite, friendly, and efficient. Value for price is good.

Personal amable, buen ambiente y muchas opciones veganas. A diferencia de otros restaurantes "mixtos" a los que he ido, no solo son platos de verdura, también platos creativos con heura o tofu. El patio interior una belleza!! Volveremos!!

TRULY Vegan Option - Edit
Although I found Spain to be very vegan-friendly in terms of shopping, restaurants were more difficult to navigate. Even in those claiming to have vegan options, it was somewhat tricky to ensure dishes were 100% plant based, but the vegan manager of this place seems to understand well the usual problems faced by vegans!

For tapas, I shared with my friends the Homemade Croquettes with Mushroom, Patatas Bravas, and Padron Peppers. And for the main, I shared with a fellow vegetarian the Eggplant Moussaka and the Vegetable Paella. Everything was delicious, reasonably priced, and the portion sizes were good.
The place has a nice atmosphere, and my non-veg friends enjoyed their meat/fish dishes a lot as well. I'd happily go back 🙂

Great homemade vegan food! - Edit
This hidden gem on the Calle Loreto surprised us with a delicious fully vegan Christmas menu. The staff knew exactly what we could and couldn't eat as the manager of the place is vegan too. The omnis at the table were jealous of my dishes from the vegan alioli to the dessert, which was an indulgent vegan brownie with icecream (a lovely treat after many days of no dessert/just fruit). Highly recommend 👌
