Pucallpa is a sweltering jungle city in Peru's Amazon Basin, and the only jungle city connected to the rest of Peru by road. One reason to visit is to board a river ferry traveling from Pucallpa to Iquitos and beyond. El Paraiso is a cruelty-free oasis in this fishing town. It offers set meals (soup, entree, drink) for around 9 soles (US$3), and an a la carte menu. Meals are of ample size. The TV is loud. This small restaurant is on the Plaza de Armas, at the back of a walkway. A sign out front points the way. Open Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:30pm, 6:30pm-9:00pm, Sun 7:00am-3:30pm, 6:30pm-9:00pm.

Good Food - Edit
I enjoyed the Arroz Chaufa and the Lomo Satlado. They have a big menu - all are vegetarian plates and many are vegan as well (such as the Lomo Saltado). Pleasant staff and very affordable prices.

Good food here - Edit
I was only in Pucallpa for a short time so I could only eat here once, but the meal I had was very good. As of June 2023 the meal of the day costs 12 soles. Today, that meal included a choice of soup or salad, and the main plate had a carrot puree, whole grain rice, and a salad made of garbanzo beans, quinoa and chopped up tomatoes and celery. All of it was seasoned very nicely and had excellent flavor. It also came with an infusion type of drink that is similar in other Peruvian restaurants. The owners are Seventh Day Adventists so the restaurant is closed on Saturday (and possibly closed on Friday night... Call before going). Warmly recommended.

Amazing place on the plaza des armas - Edit
We stayed for a month in Pucallpa, bringing regular visits to this restaurant. We would recommend the lunch menu of 8 soles that is almost always delicious. There were days that the portions felt little or not as tasty, but those were the big exception. This restaurants provides much value by giving large pieces of seitan and beans. In terms of nutrition, it is great. We loved the soups!
Read moreThere is a lot of choice à la carte as well. I never even had that much choice out of several dishes in Europe.
Very friendly owners and staff, at lunch time many Peruvians come here to eat. Nutritous and tasty.
Pros: Nutritious and healthy, Much choice, Friendly staff and good price

Lovely - Edit
I eat here quite frequently, it can be a little expensive but it is worth it and the daily menu is cheap enough. Really nice food and really nice staff in a tranquil setting tucked away in the pucallpa plaza. Well worth a visit. They also sell bags of soya meat for those that crave a bit of a protein hit here and there (like me)

A Welcome Veggie Oasis - Edit
What a relief to find this veggie restaurant in the otherwise nothing town of Pucallpa. I had their set menu (9 soles/US$3) every time, but they have an a la carte menu as well. They serve some egg dishes, but vegans are easily catered for. It appears to be popular with locals.

oasis in a frontier town - Edit
This is really a fantastic place... right on the Plaza de Armas, open every day for lunch (till around 3:30) and dinner (around 5 to 9 p.m.) Was very happy to find this on HC and went straight there when I arrived in Pucallpa. Owned be a friendly family who can accommodate vegan requests (they made their veggie burger, which usually has egg whites, special for me on request).
Read moreDaily menus with typical (simple) Peruvian fare, + an Amazonian accent. Have been eating here for the last several days and would highly recommend it.
Pros: central, friendly family, great food
Cons: uses a lot of eggs, a bit hot during the day
