Like going round your nan's for tea! - Edit
El Karmem is a tiny vegan cafe with just a handful of tables and a service not to be missed. They serve fresh juices, burgers, cakes and tapas with a Mediterranean theme.
Read moreThe lady who served us (who we assume may have been the owner) was friendly, helpful and spoke good English as she explained every dish of the relatively small, but perfectly adequate, menu in detail.
The cafe itself was immaculately clean, tidy and loved; you could tell from the service that the owner truly loved what she did and this was a passion for her. It was like being served by your mum or grandma; she was eager to feed you up and was absolutely thrilled, her face lighting up when you liked something!
We ordered a lentil burger, which came on a fresh, soft granary bun with ratatouille as a salsa and a salad on the side. The ratatouille was divine, by far one of the best I’ve tried; rich and creamy with a smooth flavour and a hint of tang from wonderfully fresh ingredients that have enjoyed a slow cook.
For dessert we sampled the strawberry and chocolate ice creams/sorbets which were home made and blended to order. They were nice and refreshing.
Whilst there was no kitchen at El Karmam so most dishes would have been pre-prepared, they did a good job and the friendly service, family feel and wholesome, home cooked grub made this a pleasure to stop at.

Totally recommend visiting and supporting this small spot! The food is made with love, and the owner is an incredibly welcoming woman. She brought us out different samples and was very flexible on altering dishes. The nice cream was to die for! We had great conversation and a relaxed experience. This is the type of place you want to support.

AMAZING Vegan Restaurant - Edit
This was the most unique and amazing dining experience I have ever had. Lola is the owner of El Karmem and cooks all of the food herself right in front of you. Her ingredients are high quality and all the food is made with love. She genuinely cares about cooking healthy food and sharing her wealth of knowledge. I loved it so much I ate there twice during my weekend in Malaga. Her homemade ajo blanco and chickpea soup were both delicious but my favorite thing was the sandwich. It´s made with fresh bread, an amazing sauce and topped with greens. Everything about the food and my experience here was wonderful. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Malaga. Thank you Lola!

Intimate and inspiring meal! - Edit
My vegan family of 4 was welcomed and individually accommodated in this charming vegan restaurant. Lola, the owner, does it all and prepares the food right there in the open kitchen so that it is so fresh and nutritious. The most important ingredient is her LOVE and desire to promote vegan food as an offering to our planet earth and all its inhabitants. We had an interesting conversation while she was preparing our meal and it felt like we were guests in a private home. The food was delicious! We had gazpacho (how nice to find it prepared without the traditional ingredient of bread!), ajo blanco soup (garlic almond soup—also without the traditional bread or flour ingredients!), amazing salad, creamy hummus, brown rice with ratatouille and the raw cake for dessert. My children enjoyed it all and definitely want to return. We appreciated that Lola accommodated our requests to customise some of the dishes and was so attentive and kind. It isn’t easy to run a vegan restaurant all by yourself and we congratulate Lola for doing it so beautifully! Your good karma will come back to you—Namaste!

Lovely experience - Edit
A very nice little establishment with a friendly owner. There was a new sandwich set on the menu that was very tasty and affordable, the green sauce was especially good and fresh. Also had a nice cup of organic coffee and a refreshing green juice. Really good value for money, would love to come again.

A bit expensive - Edit
A bit expensive for what is presented. We had a salad and a burger. The salad looked like containing what was available at the time. No sauce, just green veggies. You put olive oil and salt if u want to..

Wonderful, off-the-beaten-path homecooking! - Edit
The owner here has struggled to keep her little place alive in her neighborhood. We got to know her well and chat as she made us lunch. It felt like we were in her home kitchen. She was just a gem. The food was delicious and we got the formule or day menu. It was more ham enough for two and then we got some kombucha to go. Would visit again for sure!

Disappointment - Edit
After reading such good reviews on Happy Cow and considering I was in the area (it's 5 minutes from the CAC Museum), I didn't hesitate to have lunch here. I guess I should have gone for the affordable menu (10,00€ for a salad and legume stew, no drinks or dessert included, but it was a really hot day in Málaga and I didn't feel like having a stew, no matter how much I enjoy legumes. So I ordered a gazpacho for 5,00€ (delicious, freshly made) and a vegan burger, which for 12,50€ I thought it'd be one of the biggest vegan burgers ever. Epic fail, just have a look at the pic I uploaded. It was a really tiny burger which was just fairly good. So my recommendation, if any, would be to go for the menu of the day which for 10,00€ is fair. If eating à la carte, it's simply expensive for what you get.

Hidden Gem - Edit
Located down a quiet side street it has the feel of visiting a friend. The owner is a very lovely lady who cooks with her heart. I had the hamburger and it was very tasty and filling. All the food is cooked fresh in the small kitchen open concept kitchen. The restaurant was not busy and I was able to share a lovely conversation with the owner. Food is reasonably priced. There are also some organic products for sale. Highly recommend!

Great Atmosphere - Edit
cute and cozy place with a very friendly owner.
Read morethe food was good but a bit expensive however, the price is justified because you get organic food which the owner talk proudly about.
if you are travelling on a budget maybe this is not the best place for you.
we had a smoothy, lemon cake which is served with cold tea, 2 small tapas; hummus and rice with ratatouille served with 2 pices of bread and kombucha all of that came to €23.75
the food was great and the lady went out of her way to customise the menu to suit my needs, which I greatly appreciated.
I would highly recommend this place the food, service and the atmosphere is great.

Nice but expensive food. This little independent cafe also sells wholefoods and organic groceries. The owner is very friendly and chatty. We had tapas and coffee which came to 20 euros. Located behind Central Malaga train station, it's handy for hungry visitors just arriving.

A nice cosy place - Edit
I wasn't feeling that hungry but wanted to check out the restaurant out of curiosity. I was supposed to just pop in for a quick drink but stayed for about 3 hours, drinking wine and talking to the owner (who speaks English). She's a very warm, friendly person and that evening was just what I needed after being in Malaga for a week by myself. I'll definitely revisit if I'm ever back in the city. Thank you for the flowers :)

Lola (the owner) runs the restaurant and shop on her own. The environment is very cosy and comfortable and the food is amazing. Lola makes you feel right at home as if you were visiting a close friend or relative. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Málaga as it is now one of my favorite places to eat and support a hardworking, caring person that makes delicious food!

Deliceous and Kidness - Edit

Excellent intuitive vegan cooking - Edit
El Karmem Yoga Cafe is very closely located to Malaga Centro on the C-1 line, all within easy walking of any place in the centre of the city. It is a down-to-earth cafe run by the lovely, social Lola, who I enjoyed visiting during and after my meal. I had the three-course menu of the day, which was very filling and tasty. I was impressed by Lola's intuitive cooking abilities, the presentation of the food, and the clean taste. Highly recommended and worth supporting!
