Vegan tasting menu - Edit
Stayed at Grantley Hall as an early birthday celebration and knew I wanted to dine in 88 as I'd read good things about their a la carte menu, little did I know that they also offer a vegan tasting menu as a standard menu option!
Read moreAs a principal, I firmly dislike vegan tasting menus as they're usually an afterthought by the kitchen to let vegan diners also eat with their non-veg companions and offer very low value for money when they price is the same for a few vegetables. This absolutely was not the case at 88! The menu was well thought out, balanced and vibrantly showcased what you can do with vegan, pan-Asian cuisine. The smoked aubergine dumplings with the crispy chili oil were by far my favorite course!
As it was my birthday, the staff even brought out a plate with petit fours and a Happy Birthday chocolate plaque, although we weren't advised at the time what was vegan so we're hesitant to eat it (it is the orange jellies that are vegan).
Pros: Vegan tasting menu as standard option, Staff were friendly , Happy birthday plate brought to table as dessert
Cons: Minor mix-ups with the staff but nothing major
