Terrible and Dangerous - Edit
The management and service was appalling. We arrived 6 minutes early. And our table was not ready. We waited. A table was then made up for us, we proceeded to sit down. “NO you cannot sit down, you are early”. We considered this, whilst we thought it was strange, we accepted that we were (now) 3 minutes early.
Read moreAt this stage we explained to their staff that we would like to sit down and that our table was ready. Once again, “NO you cannot sit”!
We were then approached by another patron awaiting a table. There had been waiting over 30 minutes. And we’re clearly disappointed.
The server “Eddy” then came to us and said “we will seat you soon, I cannot do anything about it, these other people have been before (so had we) and they are crazy people!”
At this stage we suggested that we didn’t appreciate the behaviour of the staff towards the other guests.
Finally we were seated on a 3 person table (we had 4 guests…)!
The meal first appeared to be on track. However, we noted that there were foreign objects in the food (plastic material and hair), we noted a rat running across the room and also the restaurant had allowed cats in. The cats were sitting in the kitchen, over the preparation areas and the servers were petting them whilst also serving food.
We also asked for ice for our wine (the wine was warm and had not been refrigerated). We were told “this was fine, just coming”. However, no ice arrived. We then requested ice again. This time, we were told “you cannot have ice, the only ice we have is from dirty water, not clean”.
We thought this was strange, but we respected the honestly. So we declined the ice…
And then, ice appeared from another server. This ice was not “fresh ice”. And based on what we had been explained to earlier. We chose not to touch the ice that we were then provided with…
The meal; unfortunately the meal was not served together. So several of our party ate food whilst the other party had no food.
We ran up a respectable bill. And we were getting ready to offer a tip of 25%.
As we asked for the cheque/bill the server came to us. His name was “EDDY”. And he called my husband an *sshole. And said that we were being difficult and we should pay him 300euro as a tip. We decline to offer a tip at this stage. His response was “I don’t need the tip anyway”…
As you can imagine. Even if he truly felt this way, this is not the way to act as a service provider.
We would suggest that the food hygiene authorities should make a visit.

Good pizza in a cool setting. - Edit
Super atmosphere, huge pizza and friendly staff. While they don’t have anything marked as vegan, the vegetarian pizza’s can all be made without cheese so easy to sort. We also had onion soup (without cheese) and the vegetable soup (default vegan) as well as the pasta with porcini (default vegan)

Yummy vegan pasta - Edit
I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro and my friend ordered the penne arrabiata. The waiter confirmed that both were vegan! Both meals were delicious and there was a great wine selection as well!

Nice pizza alle verdure (vegetables) - Edit
Huge pizza for 13 euros, and tasty as well. They don't mark it as vegan, but you can ask for the cheese to be removed. Could be a little tastier when more spices are added, but well perhaps I'm just a fan of spicier food.
Read moreThey knew what vegan meant so that was nice as well, very kind waiters.
They had chili oil for the crust as well!
Oh something that came as a surprise: we asked for the cheese to be removed and replaced by mushrooms instead, and on the bill it appeared we were charged 1.50 per pizza for that.

Best Pizza Ever - Edit
We have been to Courmayeur two times and both times have visited Du Tunnel. The ambience is quite charming and when you go you must sit on the second floor. Be prepared, though, because the ceiling is quite low and I stand 5' 8" and had to bend over. On our most recent visit, we ordered two pizzas and asked them to skip the cheese. There was no surprise on the waiter's face and he happily accommodated. The crust on the pizzas we ordered was thin and crisp, although you can order a thicker crust. Be sure to ask the waiter to bring you chili oil to dip the crust into. Pizza in Italy is funny--they don't cut it into slices like they do in the US and each person orders their own pizza--if you don't, they will look at you like you are crazy. Use your fork and knife to eat half of your pizza and then fold the entire other half of the pizza in half and go to town. Delicious and filling!
