Fully vegan - Edit
24/05/24
Read moreWhen I went they had just moved a few days before into a pub. I tried the garlic chilli chick'n teller, which was basically loaded fries. Big portion and delicious
Since visiting I have seen on Instagram that they have now completely shut in york, which is a massive shame as a fully vegan food place but there is still one in Leeds

Sausage Breakfast Sarnie - Edit
Excellent vegan sausage breakfast sarnie and offered at a really affordable price, the staff seemed like great fun and I am reliably informed by some friends in York that the rest of their food is great too, check it out!

Hi Patricia
Read moreI did not find it spicy at all and I had chilli sauce on top. I would describe myself as a spice lover but not too spicy. I think you will be fine without the chilli and maybe with mayo for dipping.

It was OK - Edit
This place is very friendly and a bit different, and we did enjoy Doner Summer. In the end I regretted getting the kebab in pita, as my partner's once seemed tastier, saucier and all round nicer as a mixed kebab teller tray.
Read moreDespite the food having been 'just cooked' and running literally down the road at high speed to our apartment to consume it, the food was between tepid and cold and I needed to microwave mine. I disliked my cold fries.
We also asked for and paid for a side order of sauce, which was forgotten.
I was REALLY excited to try this place, but was a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps we hit it on an off night.
Pros: It's something different , Friendly service, Wide range of food on offer
Cons: Lacked sauce , Food wasn't hot enough, Quite pricey for a takeaway

Arrive here hungry - Edit
Döner Summer was on my must go to list while in York for my birthday and it did not disappoint. I had the vegan chicken platter which was how I remember that non-vegan fast food brand to be like. Actually no, this was better.
Read moreThe portions are massive. The bowl in the middle is a side of fries so consider that prior to ordering. In reality me and my partner could have shared one meal.

Doner summer with no Döner - Edit
I have visited the Leeds restaurant and was so impressed I had to go the one in York. The chap who greeted us was friendly but service was quite slow. We sat down picked our food and drinks and after what felt like she’s he came back to take our order. We both ordered the Berlin doner to be told “oh there’s no Döner sorry I should have said” so we were put on the spot to find something else so we asked for a bit more time to chose but put our drinks order in. We decided relatively quickly. About 10 minutes passed our drinks came and and we ordered the parmo. Food came pretty fast and in a way I was glad what I originally ordered wasn’t available as I tend to stick with what I know and the parmo kebab in pide bread was unreal. The vegan chicken was some of the best I’ve ever had it was fantastic. The portion was large and we had fries to share between two which was huge. Even though the portions are big for two of the kebabs and one portion of fries and two sodas It came in at over £40 which for a lunch is a bit excessive.

Cons: Slow service, No doner which is half the menu, Expensive

Yorks best Vegan Junk Food - Edit
After a day of walking the city centre we stumbled across Doner Summer and were pleasantly surprised, the quality of the food made the choices impossible therefore we ended up with a burger, flatbread, two loaded fries and a bowl of Chic*en to boot. Pair the with great German beer of off this was a real treat and we practically rolled ourselves back to the hotel afterward. #Veganuary

Food was excellent but the service made the visit more special, from arrival we felt welcomed & ate like kings! One slight negative is that no cash payment & that wasn’t clear but that is a minor issue when food & service is so good! Thanks for a lovely meal.

The Best Vegan Chick'n - Edit
Easily the best vegan Chick'n we've had anywhere, simply amazing. There's a large choice of flavours covering how you can order burgers, buttermylk Chick'n, and kebabs. The kebabs are loaded with flavour, and the buttermylk Chick'n are a hearty feast.

Damn - Edit
Almost 10 years since I had doner that tasted like doner, and even with that it turned out the fried chicken was the best part of the meal. Lovely staff and they make it all themselves. Brought delicious cake home because we couldn't eat more. Bring your appetite because the portions are massive. Do not skip on this place if you are ever in York.

Chicken gyros - worth the try - Edit
I did a walk in take out one evening. If you want to eat in be sure to pre-book.

Cons: £13.95 for a take-out gyros, pricey but nicey

Tasty kebab - Edit
I'd never had a doner kebab before and heard good things about this place. Staff were very friendly and helpful in making recommendations as there are a good few options. I had the Berlin Doner kebab, which was a bit spicier than expected but still yummy! Nice place, a little hard to spot walking down the street so be careful you don't miss it.

A little disappointing - Edit
So sad this place use to be really good but in the last couple of years it seems to have gone a bit downhill.
Read moreThe food was very salty. Very large portions of chips but not that many toppings. Unfortunately there was a lot of issues with the service. Just one waitress on and she really struggled. She was nice but admitted she was new to the job so there were a few issues with everyone who was in's order which just left the whole experience really uncomfortable and awkward. Floors and tables not clean. I hope it improves again because it use to be so nice!😔The sauses and toppings were good though and so was the vegan chicken

Dinner with Gershwin - Edit
One of the two surviving branches left of Yorkshire’s very own chain of vegan fast / junk food city centre hot spots. Only Leeds and York remain. The Berlin Döner Kebab on garlic and coriander flatbread was excellent packed full of döner meat, pickles and vegetables. We also shared a fabulous buttermylk spicy fried chick’n combo with succulent chick’n pieces tossed in hon’y butter served with slaw, pickles and fries. The bill was higher than expected but maybe I wasn’t aware of a 10-12.5% London influenced service charge pariah that had infected the county of Yorkshire.

Went looking for some “hot stuff”…didn’t find it - Edit
Bit of a let down. The hype of this place led me to believe it was going to be a taste infusion but sadly it all tasted pretty much the same. Honestly, quite salty too. We ordered two different things hoping to share but both tasted the same and we couldn’t finish because of the taste of salt. I asked for a dip which came out wrong. Drinks were small in size and overly priced. Food pricing is okay and portions are large but the quality is not there. I wanted water and the waitress did not come back to us for such a long time. Not that it was overly busy. The idea and concept of this place is amazing but it is a pity the food is not reflecting that.
Read moreI felt like the seats were a bit dirty from the leaves and bushes which could be brushed often so people can sit more inside the booth. Not a huge issue though.
Felt like the staff were not that attentive and what made it worse, they added a discretionary charge to the bill which I only realised after I had paid.
Pros: Good idea and nice setting , Big portions
Cons: Too salty , Small drinks , Waitress did not check back with us

Great idea, okay food - Edit
I’ve had several things from DS before and the presentation is always very alluring but I always feel a bit let down by the flavours. It’s mid range pricing so I’m not expecting the world but it all feels a bit overrated. Nevertheless, it’s a cool idea and it’s nice to have somewhere that offers more than a falafel wrap.

Awesome vibe and kebabs! - Edit
Fantastic place! It’s located just outside the York walls and definitely a place to check out. The vibe is great, with pink walls and a big outdoor seating area that’s really nicely decorated. The whole place is vegan/plant-based. I got the Bad Girl Kebab on garlic & coriander flatbread, which was absolutely delicious and looked gorgeous too! Also, the waiter was super nice and friendly and our food came quickly.
