Not great, but not bad

Mediocre food chain with many vegan options. I mean the food is not bad, but its quite expensive for what you get. I was a regular customer, but its not worth the hustle for me anymore. Mainly because two reasons. One its quite hard and annoying to find out which options are vegan and which are no, the labels are pretty random. And two, there are surcharges for a lot of items even though you pay quite a lot for the weight. So be careful.

A great chain of restaurants

All available food is labeled, so even though Dhaba Beas is vegetarian, you can easily eat vegan. Wonderful for a quick lunch.

vegans sureness in Prague

The DB buffets are all over Prague and you can always get there some vegan food.

Some ingredients/meals contains dairy but it is labeled (symbol of a cow for dairy content and symbol of a flower for vegan).

Price is counted by weight of the food you take. Some meals are charged extra. There are soups, rice/noodles, sauces, salads and some venues have pastries.

Usually it can be said that the menu is more or less the same, being changed a bit every day but some ingredients as salads are permanent.

There is also discount an hour before the closing time which differ venue by venue but sometimes it is empty soon, be fast!

Pros: wide range of choices, fresh ingredients, sale before the shut-down

very good value for money in Prague

Before travelling to Prague we did some research on HappyCow. We wanted something fairly fast, simple, cheap, tasty and open till quite late (including Saturday); nothing far from where we were right then, nor totally unhealthy, posh or fancy. In the end, we went out for late lunch 5 times to 4 different locations/3 different chains.

Coming from a country where vegetarian (not to say vegan) restaurants aren't so commonplace we are modest and do appreciate the fact that we don't have to scrutinise every single ingredient and examine the staff (like at fancy non-veg*n places).

At first we couldn't find DB Pankrac branch - the house numbers are a bit confusing at Pankrac borough, had to walk much further than we'd expected. But our efforts paid off.

DB offers a self-service buffet - an Indian thali style (eat in or take away). Everything is clearly labelled (ingredients, vegan/vegetarian, hot/mild). There is a jug with water at every table and green tea at the counter for free. You pay CZK 21.90 for 100 g or 40% off during happy hour which is the last open hour (make sure you come on time otherwise you end up eating nothing at all like us at their Vladislavova branch! The happy hour discount doesn't apply to their Purkynova branch which happens to be right next door...). Some (more expensive) items are priced individually (such as samosas, pakoras, burgers, pappadams etc.). Chapatis sell out in the morning.

We went there before the happy hour, it was very quiet, hardly any people, but when the happy hour came it got very busy. No wonder. We had a bit of everything (vegan): some sabdji, red kidney beans dal, Asian bistro style tofu with veggies, plain Basmati, spicy Basmati, coated mock meat pieces, fried tofu, sprouts, mixed salad, buckwheat salad, fruit salad, burgers, marinated tofu, dressing and Indian pickles - 2 big plates for about CZK 360. Unfortunately, the soup and halva (and other sweets) weren't vegan. You can order some lassi too.

Overall, we found the food in DB nice and, what is more important, it seemed palatable to our fussy 2.5-year-old son too. We'd eaten Indian food in and out India many times and wouldn't say it is not authentic.

Pros: lovely, variable and filling food, friendly staff, reasonable price, happy hour, water/tea for free, clean space and toilets

Cons: some items sell out too fast, non-vegan desserts

Thank goodness for Dhaba Beas

I did some research for my Prague trip and saw the Dhaba Beas restaurants listed on happy cow. Ate at a few of them while in town and was pleased. It's nice to find pure vegetarian food when traveling. The staff is pleasant, and the food is inexpensive. Good for a casual bite.

Food is Function

If you want a healthy and satisfying feed then this is the place to come. Pick what you want from a selection of hot dishes, sides & salads as well as food all served up in a metal tray with different compartments. Not really suited for romantic dining but a fully functional feeding establishment open early and closing fairly late. Fill up here for a day walking around Prague

Pros: cheap, fair range of food
