This restaurant is exactly what you pray it is - amazing French vegan food. Honestly, it was so hard to pick what to get. The waiter suggested Escargot and Coq Au Vin. Of course, he said he could only one favorite. It has been so long since I had proper French food. I could have cried. Come here!! 🥹❤️

Wonderful place

Very French. Delicious food. Not-beef bourguinon excellent, veggie stew excellent, onion soup excellent, creme brulee as good as a non-dairy pudding could be (practically licked the bowl). Good Riesling. Place is very small and was full on a Thursday at 7:30 pm.
You do need a reservation.

Pros: Excellent food, Nice ambiance

Cons: Maybe a bit salty, but certainly edible anyway.

Vegan French? Mais, oui!!!

Celebrated my birthday—and Bastille Day!—at the delicious and charming Délice & Sarrasin. I never thought I would find what seemed like an oxymoron—a French vegan restaurant—or that it would be so “formidable!” Biggest hits of our meal were the melt-in-your-mouth vegan Brie en croute, the boeuf Bourguignon, the Coq au vin and the sumptuous dessert crêpes: in a word, “YUM!” Our host was warm and helpful, suggesting dishes and giving us the history of how the restaurant came to be. This little restaurant packs in great flavor and is a real find. If you want authentic French cuisine that has been transformed into a vegan extravaganza, look no further than Délice & Sarrasin.

Fabulous Brie Fondant

This little French restaurant would be quite easy to miss, but is well worth a visit (or two)! Their cheeses are out of this world, particularly the Brie Fondant! The “poulet” casserole was delicious, and the crepe’s really light. The atmosphere is very cosy, and service very attentive. Will be back!

Pros: An amazing array of vegan cheeses, Cosy atmosphere , Great French-style cuisine

BEST VEGAN FOOD EVER

Holy crap this was the best vegan food I’ve ever had and I’ve been to many places in and out of the city. We had to double check they weren’t using seafood in the entrees, it tastes so real. The things I tried were the tuna tar tar which was my favorite, the smoked salmon crepe was so good, the seafood tagliatelle, the crab cake, the steak, french onion soup, orange crepe brûlée, chocolate mousse, and the tuna shrimp appetizer(limited supply of that) and everything I tried was amazing!!! Please go here if you want wonderful vegan seafood.

Pros: TASTES LIKE SEAFOOD IM-, LITERALLY AMAZING, REALLY CHEAP CREPES $10 for most

Cons: Entrees are expensive but it’s worth it

Amazing

Great space with a relaxed and cute French theme. There are so many options on the menu with creative dishes. I had the cheese platter which was so delicious and then a salad with a tuna tar tar that was made out of TOMATO and was so yummy. No regrets!! I highly recommend it!!

Pros: Creative vegan options, A lot of soy and gluten free options

Vegan Steak and Fries!

I was thrilled to find this quaint little restaurant near the ballet studio where my daughter was attending a summer intensive. I ate here several times while in NYC. I live in California, and I agree with a previous commenter that I would make a trip to NYC just to eat at this restaurant. The vegan steak and fries was my favorite dish! The "steak" was made from layered mushrooms (although not mushroomy at all) and so incredibly flavorful. We also enjoyed the cheese plate, with several interesting and tasty homemade cheeses. The sweet crepes are to die for. I was excited that they could be made gluten-free. My daughter had the French toast (not GF) at another customer's recommendation, and she loved it. I can't wait to go back!

Pros: Crepes, steak and fries, gluten-free options, nice

Great if you like fake meat

Since this place got 5 stars on here I was very excited to try it out. The escargot was incredible but everything else was just pretty average. They use a lot of fake meat that I wouldn’t expect from a place like this. That was a huge disappointment. I’m used to Blossom, Candle, Vedge, etc so I was expecting something like that. Especially since this place is the most expensive vegan restaurant I’ve eaten at. At least the wine was reasonable ($30/bottle that they serve out of a carafe, so not sure what we were really drinking). I got the boeuf bourguignon & my friend got the cassoulet. Again, pretty average. Good but nothing special. I ordered the Steak Tartar to go & it was more or less raw beyond Burger.

Disappointing

As soon as I found out Delice and Sarrasin’s amazing menu on the internet I didn’t hesitate, jumped on the phone and reserved a table for two. I couldn’t believe my eyes that all these french dishes I used to love were now veganized and available for me to eat. Let’s just say that expectations were high. Unfortunately our experience was not in line with them. I first had the tomates mozarella méditerranéennes. The tomato was unripe, pale looking, very firm and of course, not juicy. The mozarella was OK but very salty. Hubby had the escargots au beurre maître d’hôtel, with a side of fries. The escargots were very good, tasty, with great texture, quite close to the real thing. There was just not enough to satisfy my husband’s appetite. The fries were very thick and very fat: the total opposite to the usual French “pommes frites”. Neither of us liked them. We had a basket of bread, like we usually get in France, except that I was expecting a baguette (as seen in a picture on their website), when in fact we were given a few slices of quite dry bread. A good note here, my husband who is GF was given one of their buckwheat crêpes and that was very good. Then the much anticipated entrees arrived: a coq au vin for me, coquilles St-Jacques for hubby. The coquilles, to his chagrin, were not prepared like we knew -and loved them- with a creamy white wine béchamel sauce. They were sitting on a bed of not very warm spinach purée that had an overpowering nutmeg taste and again, very salty. The “scallops” themselves were good, texture and taste-wise. The coq au vin was OK, the “meat” had good texture, and there were nicely prepared carrots and potatoes, but it tasted nothing exceptional. The waiters -garçons- as we say in France, were doing their job correctly, and being French Canadian I enjoyed being spoken to in French - in New York! But, that did not compensate for the disappointment and the steep bill. So, it’s too bad that we had this under-expectation experience. I would have liked to give a good review because it’s a family business, they’re French, and they have worked hard to get where they are, but in all honesty I couldn’t.

Pros: French dishes, Cute decor

Cons: Cramped tables, Food is good - to good +, Not good value

Amazing! Would return to NYC just for this place.

I have been meaning to review this restaurant for almost a year. Where do I start?

My first and only trip to NYC was made for the purposes of seeing Derren Brown, who I think is completely amazing. It pains me to say that his show was disappointing. BUT. My visit to Delice & Sarrasin made the entire trip worthwhile.

My carnivorous friend and I made a reservation for a Saturday night. We both loved everything we had - except our entrees. I think if we picked different ones next time, we'd be happy. However, everything else was out of this world. For appetizers, we had the "cheese" plate, the escargots, and the foie gras. My friend was incredibly impressed, as was I. The escargots were, OMG, my mouth is watering now just thinking about them. The "cheeses" were all fantastic (and I am a true connoisseur and have tried many many MANY vegan cheeses). My friend said the foie gras tasted like the real thing. I have never had it so I can't say... but the thought of what is was meant to replicate turned me off so I let her have the whole thing. She happily (greedily) took me up on the offer.

I had the coquilles saint jacques for entree. It was ok. I believe she had the aiguillette de canard a la moutarde et petit pois carotte, but am not sure. Whatever she had, it had green peas and carrots and she didn't like it.

I ordered two desserts that were both amazing: the chocolate mousse and la francinette crepe. My friend had the banana crepe. All amazing.

We also had a glass of red wine each that was fantastic.

I truly would return to NYC (not a cheap trip!) just for this restaurant. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.

A vegan French restaurant? Who'd a thunk?

Pros: delicious, amazing, out of this world!

Cons: very small; tight squeeze

Vegan French food? Wow!

We were so happy to find this place when we arrived in NY for a birthday weekend. The cheese plate is AMAZING, best one we've had. They make their own meat from pea protein and it was fantastic. Love the atmosphere and the service. They recommended the perfect wine to go with our meals. The entrees we had were good but too salty, almost to the point of being inedible-- coq au vin and cassoulet. We would go back again but would try different entrees.

Très bon !!

It’s piece of Le Marais on Christopher (appropriate). Great, calm, intimate place without fussiness. Just excellent food that could be served in the best bar à vin or bistro minus the animal suffering or health concerns. Dishes like the foie gras or the cassoulet are just divine and authentic. It’s like channeling a vegan French grandmother’s kitchen. The staff is superb and friendly. They do kick you out if you linger so they can accommodate other patrons (that part is not très français). Overall, this place is a gem.

New favorite restaurant!

We FINALLY made it to NYC last week for the first time since being vegan...We'd originally thought we would go to Candle 79 for our fancy NYC dinner but after I looked at their menu I wasn't super excited by it so I kept looking at other options - and then I found Delice & Serrasin. When I saw their menu online I got SUPER excited and we decided that our fancy NYC dinner would be here instead -- and I'm so glad we made that choice!

The restaurant is really small as others have mentioned, but it's cozy. They seemed to have their reservation timing down really well because when we arrived it was only a couple minutes until one of the tables freed up, and I saw the same thing happened when other diners arrived while we were there. The French music that's playing adds perfectly to the mood!

We splurged and got SO MUCH FOOD. Shared the French onion soup, the escargot (minced mushrooms with garlic and herbs, super flavorful), and the cheese plate - all so, so good. Then I got the duck entree and my fiance got the steak and we both like our meals, although if you don't like peas do NOT get the duck because it comes with SO MANY PEAS! (Not a problem for me though - yum!) Then I got the banana crepe and my fiance got the lavender infused rice pudding...and you guessed it: they were awesome. Right then I made a 2018 goal to learn how to make vegan crepes myself.

We're both vegan for the animals, not being we didn't like the taste or texture of animal-based foods, so being able to have a meal that was reminiscent of that but without the cruelty and everything terrible associated with animal-based foods was very exciting for us. Thank you, Delice & Serrasin!

Simply the best

The positive reviews are warranted. This restaurant blew us away. The food was incredible. The restaurant itself is small and the tables are close together Reservations are a must. We saw several people get turned away at brunch and dinner time because they didn't have reservations.

We ate two meals there - once for brunch - the other time for dinner. If you are vegan and avoid soy, this place is heaven.

I adored the french onion soup. The beef bourguignon was delicious (this was the best example of vegan comfort food I could think of). The crepes were delicious.

The service could be a little more attentive but besides that one of the best meals we've ever had.

Pros: Incredible imaginative and delicious food, nice location , lots of soy free vegan options

Cons: restaurant itself is small , tables are very close together

VEGAN CREPES!

I couldn’t believe that we found an all vegan french restaurant. It was soooooo yummy, a little on the pricy side, but worth. The crepes were massive and super rich.

Cozy restaurant w/ true French taste

True European food in a super small, cozy restaurant straight at Christopher St. Watch for lunch deals: significantly cheaper than regular price. Extremely good taste, friendly staff, cute room. No fake, no fat, no giant sized dishes. Crème brûlée from almond & coconut milk. Good wine, good coffee. Food is freshly prepared. Diamond standard f/ vegan restaurants.

Pros: Fresh, friendly, authentic, cozy, no fake

terrible food, nice waiter

My friend ordered the French toast and it was old white toast with sugar. The galette I got was loaded with a melted cheese that completely overwhelmed all other flavors, but it was overall bland; The ham was pretty tasteless. The crepe itself (dough) was good. The capuchino was watery. The sweet crepe was tasty.

Pros: waiter was very nice, cute place

Cons: bland food, over priced

Loved it

This was such a special event for me. I was on holiday and I’d always wanted to go to a small French restaurant but I’d never been able to eat anything. I highly recommend the escargot. I also had the boeuf bourguigon and the creme brûlée. Both were delicious and the service was great. Highly recommend!
