Deer Mama steps up the vegan game in Amsterdam and I love it - Edit
UPDATE: Deer Mama upped their game and it is marvelous. They now serve the famous Beyond Burger and it is as good as the Beyond marketing campaign would Iike you to believe before actually tasting it. Well, I tasted it. And just wow.
Read moreWe had the BBQ one, but with ketchup instead of BBQ sauce. I personally do not care for BBQ sauce ever, so grateful they served it like this on request.
First few times I did not like the buns DM served, but now they put them on a grill instead of oven bake them and it is a world of difference.
Solid five star burger experience with epic mylk shakes.
What follows is my initial review.
First: they've only been open for a week, so things are not set in stone yet, I reckon.
Second: it looks amazing! I loooove how flashy but rustic it feels. Lots of pink, lots of blue, lots of plants. Awesome.
Now the food and drinks....
We had the White Russian and the Dirty Banana shakes: amazing. They are boozy, sweet, comforting and rich.
Their blueberry cheesecake is perfection for me. Very sweet and a bit sour fruit stuff, salty crust and rich cream on top. LOVE IT.
We also had the BBQ burger and the pulled stuff bun.
The buns are impossible to eat. Like any other burger bun where ever. Stop doing that. Make food eatable. Annoying AF. Burger it self is okay, lots of different sauces that have no purpose coming together like this. Cheese is good, so that's cool.
The bun with pulled stuff is made up of jackfruit and mushrooms. Unfortunately. Because the mushrooms make it quite stale. Juices run down your hands and you have to make a run for the bathroom immediately after you had it, to wash up. L

Genderless bathrooms: awesome. Not wheelchair accessible though.
Staff is super friendly and helpful.

Loving the sweets and plates to share - Edit
We tried a couple different things at Deer Mama. The plates to share such as the pani puri, fried cauliflower and purple yam are very creative, super flavorful and beautifully plated. The milkshakes too are really tasty and good looking. Compared to these wonderful options, the burgers are a little underwhelming. We will definitely be coming back for the small plates and milkshakes. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great too.

Amazing lunch! - Edit
The lunch at deermama is amazing!! My daughter had the fancy pants pancake stack with pashmak candy on the top (kind of candyfloss) and I had the funky rice noodle because mama said eat your greens. The best salad ever eaten!

Awesome burger place with lovely desserts! - Edit
We had a wonderful lunch at Deer Mama. The interior of the restaurant is really cute. They had a lot of awesome options on the menu, all vegan. I had the beyond meat burger and my husband had the pulled jackfruit burger so I tasted both and they were both just absolutely delicious!
Read moreAfter the burgers, even though we were already full, we had a peanut butter brownie and a vanilla ice cream, just because the brownie looked so mouth-watering. Both desserts tasted amazing. An absolutely must go restaurant!!

Have been here already 2 times in the past weeks and they don't disappoint at all. Boozy milkshakes are just perfect as well as the burgers. And don't forget the ' bitterballen'!

We had a super experience at deer mama. K love the location, interior and desgin are cool, staff friendly and food yummy. We had a great mixed salad with roasted pecans and grilled pumpkin, bbq burger, bitterballen, a dutch speciality and fries and cookie with soft serve icecream on top.

All in all very recommended when in Amsterdam!
