DC Vegan has a very welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and, perhaps unusually for a vegan restaurant, a vibrancy which clearly appeals to younger clientele - in our sixties, my wife and I were around twice as old as most of the other people in the Botanical Bar. The fact that we did not feel out of place is testament to the friendliness of the staff.
Read moreDC Vegan has a deli upstairs, which also serves casual food. We used the downstairs space, which doubles as a bar and restaurant. We shared a plate of "calamari" and then followed that with an aubergine dish (accompanied by pasta which made it into a huge course) and a chicken schnitzel. All the food was very tasty and the service was excellent. There are plenty of drinks to choose from - it is a bar after all - and all round we had a delicious meal in a super place. Even on a Wednesday evening in March, there were plenty of people in, which is as good a recommendation as any.
My only quibble is that , barring the excellent desserts (we had the chocolate cake and cheesecake, the latter one of the best examples we have tasted), all the dishes were very salty, an odd situation in a restaurant promoting healthy food.
A point to note is that they accept only cards - you cannot pay in cash, which can be inconvenient for tourists from Europe. For we folks visiting from post-Brexit UK, prices are high enough without having to pay a surcharge on card transactions.

DC vegan has a variety of delicious sandwiches, appetizers, desserts, and even a collection of vegan soft cheeses. Their botanical bar (downstairs) is my favorite place to dine. They have a variety of nonalcoholic mocktails and regular cocktails as well. The potato skins were outstanding, and the crab cake was really good! I was disappointed in the eggplant parmesan, served luke warm and not nearly enough sauce. Overall, this is definitely a spot where you can find something that suits your fancy. It is pretty expensive though!

I came here for a late lunch/early dinner. I arrived after 4 pm, which is when the dinner menu starts. Prices seemed a bit high for food that wasn’t too different from the deli menu, so I ordered a “meatball” sandwich, salad and tiramisu off the lunch deli menu.

The tiramisu was good, but I don’t think I’d classify it as a “tiramisu”; it was a slice of white cake in whipped topping with chocolate chips at the bottom. I didn’t get any coffee taste and there was no creamy mascarpone replacement. I think DC vegan is known for its creative “cheeses”, so maybe a cheesecake is a better option for dessert.
The service was friendly and quick. It’s a casual diner-style restaurant where you order at the till and take a number to your table. There’s not a ton of seating, and there’s a lovely (but small) outdoor balcony for al fresco dining. If you’re in the city, it’s worth visiting DC vegan and, at a minimum, ordering one of their many desserts.

I had a great evening at the botanical bar. They have great food in different size options so you can come here and have a snack with your cocktail or a whole dinner after a long day. I would definitely recommend to do a reservation because I had to wait quite a long time even for a single seat.

A nice variety of vegan sandwiches, salads and bowls. The crispy artichoke and the herbed tofu bowls were very tasty, as was the warm focaccia. The crispy artichoke sub sandwich was good too if you don't mind so much bread. The chicken cutlet club with a side of fries was hearty and delicious. The Unfortunately, I can't recommend the loaded fries, the ricotta/herb focaccia or the carrot cake. You make like them, but I did not. The space is simple, but comfortable enough; and the service is pleasant and friendly.

I’ve had the Italian hoagie and the chik’n cutlet club, as well as the potato skins. Everything is just phenomenally, consistently delicious. This is some of the best vegan food in DC, no question. And after dinner you can head downstairs to the Botanical Bar (same owners) for a drink! Apparently they sell vegan cheese now too?
