One of my favorite grocery stores to shop at

This is one of my favorite grocery stores to shop at for vegan food in Lawrence. There are many vegan options that are clearly labeled served daily at the hot bar. There are also various vegan options throughout the store as far as groceries. The staff is super helpful and accommodating. They have a great selection of vegan vitamins, skin care, and other products. I love going to the merc co op! My only complaint is that it is a bit expensive.

Pros: friendly staff

Cons: expensive

Best place ever!

I go here at least twice a week, I love it so much! So many vegetarian and vegan options in the grocery area, the coffee bar, and the deli. Lots of local produce and organic is the default. The deli is a touch expensive, but the groceries are fairly priced. Also, the bulk section is to die for!

Pros: Lots of vegan/vegetarian options, Local and organic selection, Bulk section is great

Amazing vegan options, all labeled

The deli has so many great vegan options and everything is labeled. They even have vegan baked goods! Grocery items are labeled with the number of miles they traveled getting to the store. The workers are also very friendly.

Pretty Good

Clean and cute Co-Op. Good if you’re in the neighborhood, but I prefer the Sprouts.

Groceries... plus awesome deli & hot food case!

I love the Merc! The market part of the store features a lot of packaged stuff that you can find in health food stores & Whole Foods-type places across the country, but also features stuff like lots of local produce (and dairy... and meat... if you care about that sort of thing!), local hummus and baba ghanoush, local bread and baked desserts, etc. The bulk section isn't enormous, but has a nicely curated selection. There is also a wide selection of natural/eco/local toiletries and household products, gifts, magazines, plants and flowers. My favorite thing about the Merc is their deli and cold case. They have all kinds of salads (stuff like smoked beets, fresh jicama with zesty dressing, sweet potato and roasted chili salad, quinoa and raosted veg salad, etc.), as well as other tasty side dishes (and always their great eggplant parmesan and grilled tofu). They also have a great salad bar with homemade dressings (my favorite is the blue cheese and ancho chili dressing, but their sweet red pepper vinaigrette is great, too) and three delicious homemade soups a day. The cold case has a lot of the stuff from the deli and things like rice bowls, pizza, pasta, enchiladas, grilled tofu in hoisin sauce, and other stuff to take and heat at home, as well as salads ready to go. The coffee shop and bakery has lots of sweet treats and an amazing salted caramel latte (fabulous with almond milk!), and there are also hot cases with Tex-Mex and Chinese/other Asian options, both veg and not. Their veg selections from the hot case are consistently good... think black bean and roasted veggie enchiladas, or red curry tofu and vegetables. Let's see... there are also flatbread pizzas and a sushi bar. Most of that stuff (salad bar, hot cases, deli, coffee shop) closes at 7 or 8, but you can get stuff from the deli case, including a variety of delicious desserts with several vegan options, until the Merc closes at 10. This is a great place to grab a picnic to enjoy at the park across the street on a nice day. There is also a small, but well-stocked (and diverse for its size) liquor store next door, if you are feeling like grabbing food and drinks to enjoy at home (or in a hotel room if you are passing through town for some reason). If you wish to eat your food on-site, there is a well-lit dining room with lots of tables, free water to drink and newspapers to read, cutlery, local art, and a microwave if you wish to heat something from the deli or cold case up. Come hungry!

Pros: local food aplenty, great for veg/special diet eaters, the deli & hot cases!

Cons: prices are a bit high, salad bar, deli, coffee shop close early, rather far from downtown

Neat little Co-op

Has a few vegan options. (Just polished off a slice of their vegan carrot cake) Check in the deli and in the baked goods cabinet for clearly marked vegan items. Small to Medium sized natural foods store. Has pretty much everything you'd find in a Whole Foods
