Stopped in for a break and lunch. My panini and cinnamon bun were super tasty and my iced latte hit the spot. I sat outside where there was a ton of seating too!

The coffee here is very good and they offer both V60 and AeroPress hand brews. The avocado bagel was pretty good too. Nice staff, as well.

Nice cafe in Essen - Edit
We stumbled on Coffee Pirates when we were in Essen, and it was a good find! The coffee was good, and they had an impressive selection of vegan cakes on offer (six or seven). If you're in the neighbourhood, it's well worth a quick visit.

Very vegan friendly coffee shop - Edit
The coffee quality is great, I really love the coffee here. I get black coffee but they have oat milk available.They also have a nice indoor seating space and about 5-6 different vegan baked goods each day, with new/ rotating options. This coffee shop and roaster also offer barista courses (info on their website).

Sehr gemütlich und klein gehalten. Der Kaffee kann auch mitgenommen werden, Soja oder Hafermilch erhältlich. Auch verschiedener veganer Kuchen ist vorhanden und sehr lecker.

I had a nice (not outstandingly nice, but much better than average) filter coffee here and a vegan cake (chocolate cake with cherries). The cake was good but I had better vegan cakes before. I would come again when I am in the area, it is just a short walk form Messe Essen.

Cute cafe offers large selection of sweets, three of which — apple strudel, chocolate-cherry loaf, and streusel-topped cake — were vegan on the day of my visit. Also available are numerous hot beverages, all of which can be made with soy milk.

Great cakes - but no longer a vegan breakfast - Edit
I was very disappointed to learn that the café no longer serves its delicious vegan breakfast. Instead, they offered me a vegan bagel with vegetables. The bagel was good, as was the latte macchiato with soy milk, but I hope they rethink their decision as their are not too many cafés offering vegan breakfasts. The vegan cakes, however, are always a real treat.

Been there three times: Two times spring 2014 and the last time Jan 2015. Really nice and friendly staff. Cosy atmosphere, nice outdoor seeting with a lot of sunlight. They serve the soy latte with the words "biscuit is vegan" :) Even so, I didn't ask for it...
Read moreThe one time I ate the cake it was a simple chocolate cake which was a little dry (but that was nearly a year ago...so...). The vegan breakfast is really delicious. It comes with toast, margarine, scrambled veggs (with different herbs), baked beans, vegan spread, soy gurt with fruit salad and some vegetables as kind of a side salad and a soy cappuccino.
Pros: friendly staff, vegan breakfast
Cons: only one vegan cake per day
