Market stall under the clock at the Cardiff Market, operating since Jan 2013. It offers some Indian as well as western food to take away plus some cooking supplies to take home. No seating. The market can be accessed from St Mary Street and from the other side near St John's Church and gardens. Oct 2019 reported only limited measures in place to avoid cross-contamination with non-vegan items.
Note May 2020: shop is open for spice kits by e-mail order only, see Facebook for details. Take-out only. Removed Jun 2021 - no longer offers food.

Lots of spices - Edit
Repeatedly I have been served spoilt pies. I have gone back to them and they have offered to replace or refund me. This was the case at the end of the week However as this has happened repeatedly I'm not impressed as I have stomach problems.
Read moreAlso noticed then that vegan items are placed touching non vegan dairy/egg products and they use the same tong. When requesting them to separate the vegan food and use separate tongs I was argued with that they don't see it as an issue ad apparently the outer surfaces of non vegan items are suitable for vegans and no one else has complaint. Three male staff in particular have mentioned this and we're quite rude not open to consideration nor respecting vegans point of view.
I have had meat eating places more considerate of this so I am really appauled that a vegetarian business can be so disrespecting.
My review will not change till they respect treating vegan food the way the Vegan Society does.

22/12/2015: The stall has alot of interesting spices you don't easily get in a grocery store.
They have a few options to snack and eat which are quite affordable. We tried the burger which we found to be dry, the coconut bonbon which lacked flavour, the sausage roll which was bland, the lentil balls which were oldly sweet and the falafel wrap which was ok. I feel the food they have needs improvement. They lack flavour, are bland and cold.
Would prefer that they serve the dhall they have with rice. It would be nice they consider gluten free wraps and breads too.
Pros: Vegan snacks , Variety of spices, Affordable
Cons: Lack flavour , Rude disrespectful staff, Cross contamination with eggs & dairy

Literally inedible - Edit
We bought the vegan Jamaican patty which was drier than sand and had a horrible taste. The vegan sausage roll was again incredibly dry and had no flavour. The vegan scotch eggless was bland and unpleasant. All three ended up in the bin. What a disappointment.

No seats and a tiny little stall... how can it have so much?

Aladdin's cave of spicy delights - Edit
Look under the clock in Cardiff market and you'll find an Aladdin's cave of spices as well as a wide array of takeaway hot and cold veggie and vegan delights. Loved the mushroom, cider and lentil pie, and totally recommend the flapjacks, jam packed with nuts and seeds and only 90p. Very friendly service despite it being 2 minutes before closing time. I'll be back!

Clancy's have every spice under the sun and serve gorgeous vegan snacks and meals - butternut bhajees, daahl, samosas, various other bhajees, slices & pies. They also have a range of lovely sweet things - vegan cupcakes, vegan bounty bars (these are lush!), amongst other things.

Clancy's for a quick snack - Edit
When I moved to Cardiff in 2015, Clancy's was the store which I relied on to go have some quick munching snacks. I like their Potato balls and Lentil Balls.
Read moreIts a value for money deal for their Lunch menu which includes a Custom Warp ( which is vegan if you choose the right fillings ), Vegan Burger ( without cheese or mayo ) and mouth watering Vegan Lentil soup and Naan.

Wonderful food, very good service - Edit
This is a little gem hidden deep within Cardiff Market and if you didn't know it existed you could so easily miss it. Such a pity as to miss it is to miss out. This is a nondescript little stall right in the heart of the market but it is vegan and veggie heaven! Choice is decent though not huge and all food is on open display in a sealed cabinet fully labelled as vegan or veggie. Their falafel wraps are great as an "on the go" lunch. Prices are reasonable and service is always with a smile. This place deserves support

best non-vegan vegan take away in Cardiff! - Edit
Clancy,s is a cool old school spice store in an indoor market. The three sides of the store are choc full of jars radiant with the colours of spices and herbs. The front has a fresh food display that had two shelves full of vegan savoury goodies on the Friday we visited. These included a vegan scotch egg that was a must given that it's the first time I,ve ever seen such a thing., it was a triumph of texture and taste in an easy to eat take away form. The sosroll was good and the ale pie lovely. When I return to Cardiff this stall will be high on my itinerary,

Thank you for existing Clancy's!! - Edit
I have developed a soft spot for Clancy's, my partner and I often choose to go there over a sit-in place.
Read moreLovely staff selling wonderful vegan food at excellent prices (seriously - they do a delicious veggie burger of the day with a good quality bun and homemade relish for only about £2.30) - who could say no??
As well as takeaway snacks and treats you can also get cooking ingredients, some of which look quite exotic and unusual.
I think their offerings change slightly from day to day so there's no guarantee that what you had one time will be there the next time - but you probably won't care because there's so much to choose from and it all looks delicious!
If you're hung up about the lack of seating then there are benches outside the market where we usually go, it's nice to sit in the sun! (though don't count on the sun actually being out because this is Wales)

vegan takeaway oasis - Edit
I love the staff here, they're great: fun, friendly, helpful and quirky. There's lots of vegan choice, much more than on first glance and sometimes more hiding behind. I always come away with a big selection of savoury and sweet. Perfect for putting together a picnic or rations for a train journey or a vegan christmas dessert!

great takeout food - Edit
strictly vegetarian (no animal or fish products or fats), with several vegan options. This is just takeaway, with mostly Indian "street food" like samosas, and other tasty bites, and veggie lasagna, haloumi slammers, as well as some interesting vegan deserts. Everything tasted great, and was well spiced (but not too hot!)
