Great local vegan cafe - Edit
We’ve visited here quite a few times over the last few years, at their old and current venue and have also had take out and delivery. The food and drinks are really good. Favourites are pancakes, the chocolate breakfast/pudding and hot chocolate and milkshakes. I have a sweet tooth! The venue is very nice although it can get very busy on the weekends. It’s on the pricey end, especially if dining in

Amazing selection! - Edit
Lots of great and tasty vegan options. Savoury or sweet, it all hits the spot. Also offer vegan protein shakes. Staff is super friendly and the cafe very cute. Prices may seem a little high for some, but I find them reasonable

Unreal sarnies - Edit
A lovely little cafe in a cosy setting with some fantastic sandwiches that really pack a punch. I had a cheeky choona and I have to say I think this might be the best vegan sandwich I've ever had, period. The bread was incredible, and the filling was darn tasty, will definitely be going back for more.
Read moreOur drinks, a hot chocolate and an iced latte were just okay unfortunately. They seem to use a wide range of Rude Health alternative milks which I haven't yet personally tried so it could be down to that, and I'm more than happy to give it the benefit of the doubt and order again.
Mmmm also there is a superb, wide range of fully vegan desserts on the counter too, wish I had gotten more! The peanut butter slab thing was so filling and very scrumptious.
Pros: Full vegan menu, Cosy atmosphere , Amazing sandwiches and desserts
Cons: A tad on the pricey side (but still well worth), Okay beverages

Brilliant sandwich selection - Edit
I’ve had the chickpea “choona” cheeze and the avo and olive tapenade so far (both heated up) and they were delicious. The juices and smoothies are also great. Prices are relatively high but the food quality and choice are brilliant, and it’s reassuring that everything’s vegan.

Happy - Edit
I’m so glad to have this place on my door step. I want to be able to give it 5 stars but can’t. Hit it at the wrong time and you will be left wondering if your food will turn up and prices are high enough not to go more than once a week, just a treat.

100% vegan. Delicious iced frappuccino and beautifully presented. Blueberry pancakes were yummy too although I'd personally prefer them not to be gluten free. Nice decor and outdoor seating options.

Still great, but prefer old chia - Edit
I love the fact the new chia has a lot more seating and looks great but comparing to the old chia i feel they are focusing on the health side over animals - perhaps this draws more people in? I just feel it’s lost it’s true meaning but saying that I would still come here to eat but not as often and I would have. I have also come in a couple of times to get a normal slice of cake but only had the options of ‘raw’ dessert such as the cheesecakes or protein balls

Hopefully teething problems - Edit
In the new premises, Chia feels like a completely different cafe. I would still recommend for a coffee / cake style situation but not for meals anymore. The menu had fewer items on, smaller portions and unfortunately the service was very slow; my food came out when my partner had finished his, I asked for my drink when my food arrived and was reassured it was being made but it never came & I had to go to the counter to ask for it - I had finished my food by this time. As I say; still some tasty items and I think it’s brilliant to have a plant based cafe that now has more seating to reach more people but unfortunately it’s lost us as customers who used to travel to eat there. If I was ever in Hitchin again I would still enjoy some coffee and cake there.

Chia Hitchin - Edit
I frequented Chia before it moved and always thought food was very good in terms of quality and value, however in the move to larger premises there seems to have been a decline in terms of value (but quality still good). Six pounds fifty for example for some granola on coconut yoghurt with a few berries is excessive....and they don't do porridge anymore which used to set me up nicely for the morning.

yummy food - be prepared to queue - Edit

We went to Chia on a weekday, for a fairly early lunch (12.30 ish), thinking it wouldn't be a problem to get a seat and order our food. It was just a few days after Chia had moved from a nearby, smaller venue to this
bigger venue. We luckily managed to get the last free table, but during the time we were there (about 45 minutes), the place was constantly full, and there was a long queue of people ordering, either to take out or stay in, which never really died down. Despite 3 staff members dealing with the orders and serving food and drink, the atmosphere felt a bit stressful. In the end, my partner's food (a butternut squash falafel bowl) arrived about 20 minutes before my Umami Burger, but luckily the wait was worth it! The vanilla mylkshake was also very tasty. The prices are on the expensive side, though, particularly for a cafe rather than a full-blown restaurant.
One more hint: if you order your food, make sure you've thought of everything. We asked a passing waitress whether we could add something to our order about 5 minutes after placing it, but were told to go back to the order point, which would have meant joining the long queue at the counter, so we didn't bother.
This vegan eatery is really worth going to, and it adds something which Hitchin did not have before. Hopefully, some of the problems we experienced are down to teething problems in the new venue, but I fear that the demand for such an eatery is bigger than the logistics can easily cope with. But it's worth seeking it out if you are prepared to queue.
Pros: tasty vegan/plant-based only food, friendly staff, compact space
Cons: very busy, bring time, as you will need to queue, orders need to be placed at the counter

Went in for lunch on the Saturday of their first week in the new location. It was really busy and we had a bit of a wait, but you know what? I’m glad it was busy because that means that lots of people who maybe aren’t vegan are wanting to try planet based food because it’s good!

Brilliant Cafe - Edit
Really love this place. It was packed when we came in but I’m glad we waited around to give it a try! I had a chickpea and sweet potato bowl and my friend had the avo mash. Both of us had a side of creamy mushrooms. Flavors were on point! Ambience is great! Love all the lush greenery! Staff are friendly. Service was quite slow but as said, it was very busy when we visited.
