Unforgettable - for all the wrong reasons - Edit
The most underwhelming and disappointing dining experience in a while. I took my family here to celebrate a birthday and had been excited to finally try one of Ms. Waas's restaurants. Based on all that I have read about her impressive career, I think she would be disappointed in the dining experience provided by her team.
Read moreOur items were cold and bland. Between requiring diners to present a card when needing service and our server's disinterested demeanor, our entire party felt as though we were a burden and not welcomed guests.
Our family has dined at premier Indian restaurants all over the world - from New York to London, Mumbai and everywhere in between - and we enjoy trying new places. We are proud of the quality Indian restaurants throughout North Carolina (both simple and fancy), and were so excited to finally try a James Beard-touted place. It was unforgettable, for all the wrong reasons.
When we called the next day, our politely-shared feedback was met with the same disinterest and apathy. We were excited for new twists on flavorful, refined food from India's different regions and were disappointed in the tasteless, uninspired dishes we were served.
The decor and atmosphere in the restaurant is neat, and I am a fan of open-kitchen concept restaurants. Lots of room for improvement. This experience was unforgettable, for all the wrong reasons.

Super good and great atmosphere - Edit
Super fun decor and approach to service (you have a box on your table that contains everything you need and also signals the server when you’re ready to order) which lends to a great atmosphere and experience. Not to mention the food is delicious. Menu is well labeled (minus the chicken mixup mentioned in another review - definitely a typo). Also, we brought our very young baby and the owner of the restaurant very kindly held him for about 10 min and walked the restaurant with him while my husband and I ate our appetizers so that we could do it with 2 hands (on a Friday night no less). She really did not have to do that and she genuinely took him not because she wanted to seem like she was helping but because she actually wanted to be helpful. Is was so incredibly generous of her. I would highly recommend this place to vegans and vegetarians.

Great food, service needs work - Edit
I went with a vegetarian friend and we loved everything we got. The aloo chaat Tippin was delicious! My veggie Kurma was excellent too. My friend enjoyed her daal as well(contains ghee, so not vegan). The shared app plus a main was the perfect amount for me with out leftovers.
Read moreOur only issues were things that were made it clear that this was a fairly new restaurant. The menu had at least one mislabeling issue, though I suspect more. Chicken is definitely not vegan. I think is was likely the eggplant dish below it, which was not labeled as veg of any sort. The website's labeling looks more accurate. We also only saw our server for ordering and getting the check. He never came to check on us. One other server/busser did check in only to find we had empty water glasses and apologized for letting them get empty. However they were never filled again. I had also ordered a different drink and never got it.
Hopefully they figure out the service issues soon, as I'd love to make this a regular spot.
