Disappointed. - Edit
I have eaten here before and always have something go wrong with order but I don't complain and go about my day but today took the cake so feel should voice it this time. I ordered the Veggie Wrap #1 which is supposed to be fresh hummus, tomatoes, red bell pepper, pepitas, cucumber, sprouts and house vinaigrette on a tomatoes basil wrap. Problem #1 Not on a tomato basil wrap when asked why they said "we are out" okay...Problem # 2, 3 and 4 no bell pepper, tomato or cucumber (unless you count the tiny little piece of pepper and cucumber that was on one side at last bite of wrap) I asked if other wrap they had been making was vegan as well since they were making 4 at once and not changing gloves and was told "everything is vegan" I replied well you have non-vegan /vegetarian wraps (meat wraps available) on menu so it's not all vegan. I will not ever be eating here again as every time it's gotten worst and today was my final try to like this place. Good luck everyone.

False Advertising - Edit
The often advertise vegan cream cheese as an option but are frequently out. When I asked why they advertise it (after the third time trying to order it) they said they’d been out of it for months. Cold brew tastes like yesterday’s drip coffee. Nice staff but I’ve definitely had hair in my food before.

Cons: Limited vegan, Often out of advertised options

Just OK - Edit
I tried the 'Sexy Grits' and a bagel with jelly. The Sexy Grits had grits, temph, nutritional yeast, vegan butter, and spices. I didn't like how it tasted. I was very disappointed. Unfortunately, at the time I visited, they didn't have vegan cream cheese, and I was only able to use jelly on my bagel.

Grateful - Edit
Omg you know that feeling of tears coming to your eyes when you find a place with vegan breakfast? That was me at Chamblins. Other DT Jacksonville listings have been disappointing, so I was REALLY hungry this morning. Clearly marked vegan options - hummus, Earth Balance, peanut butter, cheesy grits (I'm having that tomorrow). Sadly, their espresso machine was on the fritz, so I had to drink regular coffee, which was lukewarm.

Fun place, great food - Edit
Really fun space with the bookstore attached. Also has outdoor seating. Lots of great menu options for all. I had the sexy grits which comes vegan. It was cheesy grits topped with tempeh bacon. Oh my gosh. I ate every drop. So so good. Would definitely go back. Fun neighborhood, too.

tempeh wrap!! - Edit
My boyfriend and I decided to venture off the homestead to to try something new downtown. After seeing what vegan options they had I decided to get the vegan wrap with hummus and my bf got the tempeh wrap. Both were delicious but I will get the tempeh wrap next time for sure! And the books we got here were awesome too!! Books, coffee and vegan food?! Yes please!!

Yummy Vegan Options - Edit
We were in from out of town and I really liked this place. They had several vegan options. I ordered the special which was a seitan wrap made vegan by substituting Daiya for the cheese. Wow. It was really good. My husband had the jerk tempeh wrap. There were other vegan wraps and even more items that could be vegan by subbing the cheese. The girl at the counter was really nice and, though we didn't have time to check out the used book store, it was a nice addition. I could see buying a good used book and reading through a delicious vegan lunch if I had more time to spare.

A well-kept secret for downtown vegans. - Edit
My only complaint about Chamblin's Uptown Cafe is their terrible marketing. I have lost count of the number of local vegans who have no idea that this little cafe has many great options for them.
Read moreThe fare is light and simple, the prices are low, the coffee is strong, and the iced teas really hit the spot on a hot Florida afternoon. They have several vegan options and will happily alter items on the menu to suit your diet since they prepare the food as it is ordered.
The seating area is small, and it can be very crowded at lunch. Don't be afraid to sit at a table with a future friend if they have an open seat!
One of the best features is the the book store attached: Chamblain's Bookmine (in Ortega) is legendary for having an enormous collection of used books, and many of the very best items have made their way to "Uptown". Buy a great used book and enjoy the first few chapters while eating a delicious vegan wrap.
Pros: Great food, Low prices, Large used bookstore attached
Cons: Small seating area -- can be crowded, Parking is on the street, Only a handful of vegan options
