DO NOT GO!!!!!!

Awful service from the moment we walked in!
We came without a reservation which outraged the server due to the inconvenience it would present the restaurant, which seemingly only had 4 tables reserved, with the restaurant being completely empty until we walked in.
When asking about pita breads, we were scoffed at and angrily told that “we do not call them pita breads, just breads”, which to our surprise their just breads were not pita’s, merely dry and chewy offcuts from other loaves.
We had been made to feel relatively uneasy at the restaurant due to the unfriendly staff and frankly emotionless atmosphere, so we figured we would order a couple of meze’s and then go.
The Fava (which is a favourite of ours) was quite disappointing, and mostly just served to soften the stale breads we were eating as opposed to tasting of anything reasonable, costing us €8 for a bowl smaller than the palm of my hand. Not to mention the bread did not accompany the fava, but was ordered separately. This was an embarrassing experience frankly. Overall we paid roughly €30 for a measly 4 tablespoons of Fava, 6 slices of dry bread, one potato cut into slices in a sauce and a €2 bottle of lemonade we found being sold in a store around the corner.
We would strongly advise against dining at this restaurant on your visit to Santorini, unless you enjoy paying over the odds for an awkward and uncomfortable experience.

Cons: Overpriced , Rude staff, Poor food quality

Rude staff pretty good food

The food here is pretty good but others around are better, we had a mix of the meze options, the potatoes were amazing! The wait staff really let this place down. When we asked for advice about the menu he made us feel like we were slowing him down, then when we ordered 5 meze plus bread and wine he seemed annoyed we didn’t order the pasta dish or any mains that were more expensive. We felt a little uncomfortable throughout our meal because of the way the waiter interacted with us. Then when going to pay, we were asked how much we wanted to tip and when we declined (due to poor service) they scoffed and made a rude remark about our nationality.

Family run restaurant with live music some nights

The good thing about Candouni is that it's family run with everything being made fresh in the kitchen. There are a decent number of vegan mezze options available - we had a mix of 5 which was more than enough for 2 at dinner. There is also a dish of the day which is also sometimes vegan. They only take between 6 and 16 people every 30 minutes so the staff aren't overrun so a booking is essential. Not a problem for me but this restaurant has dogs.

Pros: Delicious homemade food, Nice romantic setting

Cons: Need to book, staff are strict on this

Delicious

One of my favorite meals in Greece so far. The fava was delicious, and I really liked the mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, and potatoes. Definitely enough vegan items on the menu to pull together a good meal. Waitress I had was vegan and staff was knowledgeable about vegan options. Would definitely recommend!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Helpful staff, Tasty

Cons: expensive

large portions of delicious food

there is a large selection of clearly labeled vegan food. portions are large especially for the price. you can definitely fill up on just a selection of starters (no matter what the waiter tells you). reserve a table in advance for one of the nights when live music is available!

Exceptional vegan food

With clearly marked vegan options, Candouni is welcoming to planter based travellers. The dishes are exceptional against all standards, have no sodium, and are created by a impressively passionate kitchen. Although the larger dishes had few vegan options, the wide variety of vegan meze options left us very full. A different spin on the fresh Greek cuisine, Candouni seemed more thoughtful in its execution and used authentic, perhaps ancient, techniques to provide something a dining experience that was truly spectacular.

Nice place and food

Lovely little place round the corner from the main buzz of Oia. Not many vegan options, but we had the vegetable pasta without cheese which was nice and the staff were very friendly.

Pros: Quiet, Friendly staff

Cons: Not a lot of vegan options on menu

Amazing mushroom risotto and napolitana

Flavorful mushroom risotto! No view of the sea but quaint little place. One of the best tomato based pasta!

Pros: Items can be made vegan , Vegan abs vegetarian items clearly listed

Cons: Waiters serve Europeans first, Asians are ignored, No view of the beautiful sunset and sea

Do not go

Yes whatever we ordered was nice but the overall experience was not. I ordered a mushroom risotto without the steak (Eu 18.50) and I was charged the same amount as if it was with the steak ... unacceptable. Also I didn’t like the way the staff dealt with the issue. And when we arrived they said we could only sit inside without reservation, and I noticed him putting walk ins outside aswell. It was my first night in Santorini, so I hope other places will be better.

Pros: The same vegan options like any other greek rest

Cons: Expansive , Server didn’t really care, Paid the same price for a risoto without the meat

Simply superb

Wonderful options from meze menu. Let the server know you are vegan as he offered off-menu dishes as well. The food was simple, tasty, healthy and nutritious. But the best bit was the waiter...he was just hilarious. Brilliant to talk to and very helpful. We didn’t know how many meze dishes to order and he said he would ‘tell us when to stop’. He also had lots of advice on what dishes to order together. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Yummy meze food, Off-menu vegan option, Food created fresh and from scratch

Wonderful staff

The food here was great, but the staff was even better. They offered for the restaurant to be our “hub” in Oia where we could come back to cool off, use the restroom, or use the WiFi. There were plenty of vegan options, some even off the menu, so make sure to let your server know in case they can do something special for you.

It ended up being kind of pricy, like a €€ rating instead of a €, but still worth the money. We just expected it to be a little cheaper going in based off of the app.

Pros: Quality Service, Traditional Greek food, Clean bathrooms

Cons: A little expensive based on the app price rating

Nice atmosphere

The restaurant had live music and we really enjoyed the traditional Greek atmosphere. The vegan options are really just from the Meze menu. They were nice enough but it would be nice to have a main dish. The grilled aubergine and zucchini were actually deep fried.

Not worth it.

Despite there being plenty of veg/vegan options on the menu, we tried several and they were all mediocre. Plus they were all either greasy or sitting in a puddle of oil. We tried the mushrooms, which were decent although they could’ve done without the balsamic reduction, the potatoes which were oddly tangy and drenched in oil, and the fried eggplant and zucchini which, granted, are deep fried, but they were just too greasy and the dip they came with was bland. They were all ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Also the service was lacking. We had to interrupt our server/host while he was eating and smoking to request our bill. The one upside is that the place itself is very cute, candles dripping from little nooks in the walls and bougainvillea growing overhead outside. Even so, this place is a pass for me.

Cons: Greasy, Bad service, Mediocre food

Beautiful meal

We got Greek potatoes, roasted mushrooms (don't miss these!) and sauteed vegetables, alongside bread with eggplant and fava dips. Food tasted amazing and the service was great. Felt like a *nice* dinner out rather than just a night of picking what you can off the menu. Definitely recommend

Great experience

We enjoyed this hidden treasure in the marketplace of Oia, Greece. We had the mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, potatoes and beets. All were wonderful but a lot of oil was used WFPB non-oil friends. Our non-vegan friend had the Greek salad which looked amazing and fresh. I’m certain they would have left off the feta if I wanted one. Let’s keep recommending these restaurants so more places especially in Europe come on board with a mixed menu for everyone to enjoy a meal directly from the menu.

Pros: Vegan options clearly marked

Excellent

I told the server I was vegan and he was very helpful. I got the Greek salad minus the feta. It was large and delicious. I also got the vegan balls, which were outstanding. And I got the slow cooked potatoes. Everything was delicious! And the setting is beautiful. Would love to go back.

A Gem!

Dining here was a wonderful experience. The owner was so kind, took his time to explain to us our options as vegans. The food was very good. The atmosphere was enchanting. Wish we could have gone back during our stay on Santorini.

We loved Candouni - they had lots of delicious vegan dishes, clearly marked, and the place itself is a traditional taverna so the food is authentic and the atmosphere was intimate and romantic. Great service too.

Good Greek food and service

Lovely atmosphere in the courtyard. We ordered the roast mushrooms, potatoes, and (pictured) garlic purée, aubergine purée, and sundried tomatoes. The waitress was lovely, and (without us even letting her know that we were vegan) let us know that the bread was vegan. A little expensive but that was expected in Oía, Santorini.

Pros: Convenient location , Nice atmosphere + courtyard to ourselves at 6.30pm, Friendly staff

Cons: Somewhat pricey
