"Vegan" items not necessarily vegan

I had what at first seemed like a lovely breakfast here last Tuesday. I loved the decor and ambiance, along with the fact that there were three or four vegan breakfast options on the menu. I had the porridge, which was labeled "vegan". I also ordered some English breakfast tea. The server brought milk with the tea, although we hadn't asked for it. After confirming that it was cow's milk, I said we didn't want it and sent it back. It occurred to me at that point that the porridge might have cow's milk in it as well, but since the menu specifically said it was made with almond milk, I decided not to worry. Big mistake. The porridge wasn't even very good.

A few hours later, I had abdominal pain, which subsided. Later, I had diarrhea, which was extremely unpleasant. For close to two days, I had bloating, abdominal discomfort, and nausea. Since I ate nothing between breakfast and dinner on Tuesday, I'm pretty certain the porridge had cow's milk in it.

Although being sick for two days while on vacation was upsetting, a positive outcome was that I learned that Mildred's Covent Garden, which is a fully vegan restaurant only a 12-minute walk away, serves an amazing breakfast on weekdays and brunch on weekends.

A lot of people in the restaurant business seem to be under the impression that "vegan" is a fancy new word for "vegetarian". Having received dairy butter and cheese multiple times when ordering vegan at non-vegan restaurants, I had been making a special effort to avoid non-vegan restaurants. After this latest experience, I would rather go hungry than risk being sick for two days.

By the way, my husband didn't get sick despite having the same things I had. It looks like he can tolerate lactose. Don't assume you're not accidentally eating dairy just because you're not getting sick.

Camomile

Quite cosy place. It’s located in central London so everything is expensive here. We brought one coffee and one camomile tea for over 10 pounds.. not so much vegan options therefore only hot drinks for us😄their camomile tea was good tho! But overall I feels like a tourist trap:/

Disgusting

Whilst this restaurant appealed to us because of its many vegan options we were disgusted by the poor hygiene in this restaurant.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Extremely dirty
