A welcome surprise amid dreary airport options - Edit
This place rules, especially for a fast food airport restaurant. There was no confusion when I asked them to make my order vegan, and they offered extra avocado to make up for the dairy. My only regret was that I didn’t get the large portion.

Beware and ask questions! - Edit
I asked if their vegan items were made on the same grill as the meat, and if the fryer was cross- used with meat. The answer was yes to both. When I said, “Well then they’re not vegan.” The girl says, “Well if that’s the way you want to look at it.” Really?

healthy nourishing vegetable forward bowl at the airport - Edit
Cafe Yumm! PDX
Read moreI was hard traveling like Woody Gutherie in Oregon. I was in need of eats at PDX aka Portland International Airport. I live in San Francisco these days yet have lived in both Portland and Eugene. I love Eugene. As a longtime vegan I love the cuisine in Oregon especially PDX aka Portland and Eugene which has some of the best vegetable forward vegan cuisine anywhere.
When I was in both Portland and Eugene I was a fan of Cafe Yumm! Perhaps I am mistaken Cafe Yumm for Laughing Planet yet the one in the Whit in Eugene in awesome besides cuisine has the coolest art anywhere from Frank Zappa photographs to R. Crumb paintings with three futures aka dystopian, future like the Jetsons and back to the land hippie paradise.
Enough here’s to there’ back to where I was in the moment of then about to head home to SFO from PDX. I was hungry so I got a bite at Cafe Yumm! In the airport. Awesome cuisine.
I got the large original bowl and added organic tofu. Since I wasn't doing the cream cheese and cheese was able to sub cabbage and shredded carrots.
Very healthy and nourishing bowl. Recommended in PDX when traveling. I was they had a Cafe Yumm! in the SF Bay Area.
Pros: packed with nutrition, packed with flavor, helpful staff
Cons: not a Cafe Yumm in the SF Bay Area!

Ok. Nice to have an option at the airport. - Edit
Some vegan options, so nice to come by at an airport. The southwest wrap looked so appeasing. Taste was blah and was disappointing to lack flavor. They did have a teriyaki tempeh kabob which was really good and tasty!!

My PDX go-to - Edit
Whenever I find myself at PDX during meal time, this is my spot. The airport location does all-day breakfast (the rest of the Cafe Yumms don't do breakfast at all), which is awesome. I do a breakfast wrappit with scrambled tofu, no cheese.
Read moreAny of their bowls can be veganized (ask for vegan and they will replace the sour cream and cheese with extra avocado or cabbage/carrots) and you can add tofu (original or southwest flavor) or tempeh. Overall the menu is very customizable, making it easy to get what you want to match your dietary and flavor needs.
I often get the BBQ Tofu Bento, which comes with BBQ tofu on a skewer, rice (choice of jasmine, brown, or cauliflower; I usually go for jasmine), and asian slaw (which I love, and I ask for double for $1 extra, totally worth it).
I also like the AvoCrunch salad when I'm feeling a salad and the Smokey Yumm Bowl (vegan/sub extra avocado, no olives, add southwest tofu) when I'm feeling a rice bowl. The ginger spice cookie is also vegan and amazing!
Pros: Vegan breakfast burrito, Easily veganizable options, Reasonably priced

Friendly staff helped with substitutions to make an amazing, loaded bowl. Tofu scramble and tempeh are great! Can get in separate terminals with the atyourgate app.

Good Yumm Bowl - Edit
Located between gates C7-C8. I just asked them to make it vegan and they replaced the sauce with my choice of avocado or cabbage and carrot. Medium bowl was $7 and enough for my breakfast.

Delicious Tempeh Reuben - Edit
It is still often a challenge finding solid vegan options in airports, but Portland Airport has a number of great options you can find on HappyCow.

Plenty of vegan options on the menu. I ordered a tempeh reuben, and it was quite tasty. The sandwich is reasonably priced for an airport, and was also very filling.

Great Airport Option - Edit
If you're stuck at PDX, there aren't that many options. Mod Pizza is ok, but Yumm has decent options. I got one of the Yumm bowls with edamame, nori, beans, and quinoa, and substituted avocado for the dairy. It was great and not that expensive (for airport food).
