Unique

For 800 yen you get your pick of two lunch sets. The style is kind of home-cooking and kind of health-food -- occasionally some things are a little bland (you have to ask if you want sesame salt for the rice) but the majority of the food is very delicious. They use a lot of okara and there is usually an okara salad, which at first I thought was a bit strange but most of them are really good. The home-made tofu is great, but my favorite thing so far is probably the okara-shiso nugget.

Pros: good value, unique menu, vegan

Cons: a few dishes are bland

In September 2009 the lady who runs Cafe Millet broke her leg, so one of the other incarnations of the Common Cafe took over its time slot temporarily (Kitchen Macridoo) but when I went they were still serving vegetarian food.

It looks like they expect to return to their normal schedule for December. (Cafe Millet on TUE, WED, Kitchen Macridoo on THURS.)

Cafe Millet seems to be taking a vacation this month (April 2010). I think the Thursday Cafe is still vegetarian, but it underwent a name change.

Come any time on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, or THURSDAY. Mon and Thurs are Neri Kitchen. Wed is usually Millet but sometimes a new one called Tsukiuta. These 3 are all vegan. Check the website for the schedule, closed some holidays. Lately Neri Kitchen has a Japanese lunch set, a nashi goreng pilaf rice lunch, or curry. Millet has only one lunch set. Tsukiuta has two choices of lunch set.

They do allow smoking but this isn't usually a problem because it isn't crowded. I've only seen other customers smoking twice, and unless you are really sensitive you can probably just sit on the opposite side of the restaurant.

It looks like Kitchen Macridoo has changed to WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS for the time being. Don't bother going on Tuesday, as it is Cafe Mulot which is not vegetarian at all. Hopefully things will be back to normal once the Cafe Millet lady recovers from her injury.
