Super close to the fort, this cafe was welcomed by the warmest smile of the owner. Great communication, and by far the best coconut cappuccino I've had in Sri lanka thus far!
We found cafe 82 by chance walking past and was the last thing I thought I was going to find on my afternoon in Galle. What a lovely surprise. Amazing service from the lovely owner and her family. Fantastic milkshakes (either soy or coconut milk) and coconut ice cream (variety of flavours).
To tip it all off, the straws were made from papaya stems (biodegradable). They have thought of everything!!
Ask for the vegan menu if the lovely owner doesn't give it to you right away. She makes all the ice creams by herself from natural ingredients, no essence or colours. Yum!
A yummy cinnamon ice cream and a delicious tea with coconutmilk and a nice chat with the owner and her daughter made the visit of this cute little Cafe perfect. There are so many different varieties of ice and i think is saw waffles. But i did not try because of a big lunch before. I was so thankful to find this place to eat vegan ice after a long time, this is so rare. On that day their food processor got broken and still they offered food and drinks, not everything but a lot and they were so kind. Clear recommendation. Visited in December 2019.
Really cute little place to have a coffee stop. They also used bamboo straws which I loved!
Great choice of vegan options and a separate menu making it clear which was and wasnt vegan!
The ice coffee with soy milk was really good, will definitely go for some home made ice cream next time around (had to much curry before this time). The guys next to us had the biggest smile while eating their home made ice cream so I guess it’s as good as the coffee if not better :)
We found cafe82 by accident walking past and were very pleased we did.
They had a vegan icecream menu with many different flavours of Vegan icecream and they were absolutley delicious!!!!!
To top it all, was the owner, who was one of the warmest loveliest ladies you'll ever meet, a real delight :)
Some of the best ice cream we've ever had! The café is small and has only 2 little tables outside, but all in all very charming. The ice cream is made out of soy and coconut and the flavours are vanilla, chocolate, coconut, cinnamon, mixed berries, passion fruit and soursop.
We had 4 different scoops and they were all abosuletly tasty. However, they're pretty pricey with 350 lkr a scoop (but absolutely worth it).
A must for vegans wanting something frozen on a hot day in Galle
Home made by the lovely owner of the cafe
At least 8 different flavours
Coconut and cinnamon were our favourites
Delicious, creamy, great flavors-- best ice cream I have had in ages! - Edit
I tried the cinnamon and would definitely recommend it-- hoping to try the coconut before leaving Galle, too! Such a nice little spot, and truly delicious ice cream.
The owner and her daughter are just so genuine and sweet, I loved chatting with them. The ice cream is made in small batches daily--they do run out of some flavors, so get there early if you have a specific flavor in mind. The ice cream is hand-spun and with no sweeteners, just fresh soya milk and fresh fruit. Vegans and non-vegans will enjoy this spot. Also a perk is that they don't use single use plastic spoons or bowls.
Super cute little place in the front room of the owner's house. Had the most delicious vegan coconut icecream, not only the best I've had in Sri Lanka but very close to the best ever. 350 rupees per scoop, worth every rupee. Owner asks you not to take a photo of the menu as she is very protective of their offerings.
Charming Little cafe in the front of the owners house just minutes from Galle lighthouse serving the most amazing vegan ice cream and shakes ( ask for the vegan menu )
While passing through the cooling streets in galle fort found the best spot for relaxing with best vegan coffee and vegan ice cream the place was hygiene and served with plastic free concept (Near union Bank)
No matter what about the previous reviews this was the best spot to relax and chill with the best vegan ice cream.there are many options too and the price was cheap
Highly recommend for visiting this place and the host were served well.take away too
I Loved the vegan ice cream as this was the best spot where truly that I Had Experienced with plastic free concept. The portion is very well served and cheap in price. This is the only place where vegan specialties is only served in the galle. love the host and the owner is friendly.
Was very pleased with this place, i had a soursop ice cream plus a mango smoothie both were just soo yummy. Will go back for sure. Lots of vegan options
Besucht lieber die Isle of Gelato. Hier sieht man das Eis vorher und bekommt für 450 LKR eine ordentliche Portion und einen Löffel aus Holz.
I would come back to Sri Lanka only for that chocolate icecream - Edit
Honestly, the best (vegan) ice cream I had so far in Sri Lanka! It's the place to go if you are looking for other options than the common sorbet. You can't even taste the difference to the dairy one, so it's a place to go for vegans and non vegans😄Prices are fair!
Also the family is really lovely, open minded and caring.
Don't miss this place!
Very friendly owner, delicious iced coffee with fresh soy milk. We even received it served with a papaya branch instead of a plastic straw, we loved it!!
Having found this place on HappyCow, we decided to pop by for an ice cream. Vegan flavours included vanilla, chocolate and custard-apple, as well as new flavours of coconut and cinnamon.
We both tried the cinnamon which was creamy and very tasty! Our ice creams were takeout, as we wanted to wander down to the lighthouse.
The woman running the place is very friendly and enthusiastic, and she told us about the various vegan-friendly drinks she serves as well.
Note that the vegan-friendly ice creams are a bit more expensive than non-vegan.
I wish I could say something else, but this was the only disappointing food or drinking experience we had during our 3 week trip in Sri Lanka.
The first day we passed here (but didn’t order anything), we spoke to the very friendly daughter of the house.
The next day we came back for ice cream and were helped by the (as we assume) mother who speaks less English (as such no problem) and who was obviously not as familiar to taking care of guests as her daughter.
The ice cream we got (seriously expensive at 450 rupees per scoop) was served in 2 bowls of which at least 1 was obviously not clean: it contained dust and even mold in some places. And the spoons we got were very rusty (picture as proof).
The ice cream itself had indeed a creamy taste but was in some parts somewhat slimey as if it was melted and refrozen.
My girlfriend couldn’t eat her ice cream by the sight of all this mess.
We paid our 900 rupees in the end (take it as a support for the family and for the effort of trying to serve something vegan), but it was actually worth the round price of 0 rupees.
We got back the same evening to explain our concerns to the daughter, I hope she takes this as a lesson, if not this place will not last long I’m affraid...
