Slightly disappointed given the reputation - Edit
Service was superb. I was surprised the summer roll was served wrapped in plastic, was it made fresh? Who knows. The noodle dish had quality ingredients and tasted good albeit served slightly cold.

“Vegetarian” - Edit
If your hotel is in district 1, this chain founded by the late Vietnamese singer Phi Nhung is quicker to get to than the one in district 5. Keeping in mind that this is a vegetarian restaurant with some vegan options. They have young coconut drinks (natural coconut juice from the fruit) if you’re uneasy with the ice in Việt Nam.

Cons: May find ants moving up the walls, Not fully vegan friendly, Wet wipes aren’t free

Buddha Chay - Saigon - Edit
Good service, relaxed and modern restraunt atmosphere, very reasonable prices, really great flavour in the dishes.
Read moreHad the braised jackfruit, amazing texture and flavour. #42
Had the mushrooms with sautéed veges and cashews, loved everything about the dish. #20
Also had the sweet and sour lotus root soup, great flavour again.
Zero complaints, would highly recommend.
It's probably better than the majority of other veg restraunts based off of my first experience.
Pros: Everything
Cons: None

Delicious Mushroom Hotpot - Edit
I had the local mushroom hotpot and I must say it was the best hotpot I have tried in Ho Chi Minh The restaurant has a Buddhist theme, as the name suggests and it has a calm relaxing environment.

Juste correct, sans plus... - Edit

Amazing - Edit
A total treat for your taste buds. A lovely place with very friendly staff and AMAZING food. The range of dishes was great - all sorts of different things to satisfy every vegetarian and almost all fussy vegans, too (ie. me). Phenomenally tasty mushrooms and loved the chance to get non-fried veg, too. A great place in a great venue. Would highly recommend.

Excellent Food, Options, Environment and Staff - Edit
I absolutely enjoyed my late lunch at Buddha Chay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the café is beautiful and comfortable. The menu had a wide and wonderful selection and the food was absolutely delicious. A French diner next to me works in the neighborhood and eats there often. He said anything on the menu is delicious. He was right by me.

Eat vegan food for good cause - Edit
I read the story behind this restaurant - set up by a famous singer of Vietnam - who stayed single / unmarried for the rest of her life just to bring up 18 adopted orphans. This business is another source of her income. The food quality can be judged by different tongues but I like it a lot. Brought my non-vegan friends and they were all impressed. Maybe the other guests who commented before me was not having luck on that day :)

Not worth it - Edit
Well it sure wasn't what I expected. First of all, it's not actually vegan, if I recall. I think there are some instances of dairy and eggs on the menu, so make sure with your waiter or waitress.
Read moreSecond, it's definitely not a budget place, as it's listed on Happy Cow. Probably about 80k/main.
And third, the food wasn't all that good. I had a jackfruit hotpot. Not a large portion. It was okay, but not very flavorful, and so salty I couldn't taste anything else. Had to pay extra for rice to go with it too. Even the napkins cost money!
I had jackfruit at Ah Di Da Phat, in the neighborhood that night. Twice as good and half the price, for more food. So what are you paying so much for here? Air conditioning, a security guard to open the door for you, and full-color printed spoon protectors. I was not impressed.
Pros: good variety
Cons: overpriced, mediocre food, pay extra for everything
