Breakfast

A small, restored general store that stocks veggie staples like tofu and soymilk right along the more typical small-town general store fare. A deli serves breakfast sandwiches, with a bagel and tofutti cream cheese option, and the lunch sandwich menu includes three vegan options. Occasional vegan deli sides, soup, or dessert. Open Mon-Sat 8:00am-9:00pm, Sun 10:00am-6:00pm.

Great Vegan Options

Less than 10 miles from Ithaca. They have seitan, hummus, guac, Tofutti cream cheese - lots of ways to veganize breakfast and lunch options.

They have a Veggie Delight with hummus or seitan, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, & organic guacamole.

Tons of local beers and wine. Great stop when visiting Shindagin Hollow State Forest.

3 stars bc staff was unfriendly, unkind and not helpful. Maybe i got them on a cranky day. Food was good.

Pay in cash! There's upcharge for credit (as there should be so small businesses don't get saddled w the 3-5% processing fee). They should tell you there's an up charge or have sign saying "discount for cash". I only found out about this charge bc i asked for a receipt.

Yummy yummy yum yum

I love Brookton's Market. I shop there and eat at their deli several times a week. They have baked goods, a small deli, sandwiches, lots of soy products in the small grocery store, even a bulk section. Many veg/an friendly foods in deli: spanikopita, kale salad (vegan), baklava (vegan), vegan danishes, hot meal on Wed nights (not usually vegan). Use local food when available and carry in the store. They also have more candy, food, drinks with alternate sweetners (not "sugar" but fruit juice, brown rice syrup, etc) than usual. Super friendly, kind staff of women. It's an old fashioned store and the only one in town. Very quaint, worth the drive from Ithaca. Also, nice room to sit with lots of sunlight, books for the kids, games, etc. Good coffee. Clean. Helpful.

Pros: healthy, super friendly staff, quaint atmosphere

Cons: 6 miles out of Ithaca, More vegan options would be nice, ???
