Box it up, I’ll take it! - Edit
Afaik, this is the only Seattle joint serving up biscuits w/cashew gravy + that’s huge for a mushroom hater like me. Paired w/collards?! Be still, my heart.
Read moreI’m also in love w/their sandwiches, tho I think it’s weird to serve them w/potato chips at this price point. I always upgrade to soup, which makes it a $20 meal.
The mac + cheese tastes like 2003 to me, but my partner likes it, so maybe you will too?
Pros: easy takeout, warm vibes, drag events
Cons: potato chips

Very Tasty - Edit
My wife and I just had a very nice dinner at Box Bar. We don’t get to WS often but decided to head that way specifically based off reviews we read here. We had the kale cesar, mac n cheese, and portobello French dip. We enjoyed all three of them. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great meal.

The Caesar salad is a standout. Can't overstate how good it is. Side order of biscuits and gravy was good -- had wonderful complexity. Tofu rancheros was also good! Coffee drink was so yummy and you should try it.

West Seattle Hidden Gem - Edit
Maybe it’s simply a result of being “all the way” in West Seattle, but I feel like I never see anyone talking about Box Bar in local vegan groups, and so, having become one of my favorite restaurants in the city, I consider it something of a hidden gem. My partner and I first swung by for lunch one day when house hunting in the area and grabbed a couple of sandwiches to-go for a quick picnic in Lincoln Park, and while the weather ended up being a bit of a let down, the food absolutely wasn’t. I shudder to think of how many variations of the classic TTLA we’ve cumulatively had in our lives, so to come away impressed was unexpected. The bread was crusty yet fresh, the veggies were high quality, the portions were generous, and overall, it was damn delicious. Soon after, we decided to stop by again, only this time for their weekend brunch. As a big fan of biscuits and gravy, I can’t say I’ve ever had them served with spicy collards before, but I instantly became a fan. Since then we’ve tried a fair bit of their small but always interesting menu, and we’ve enjoyed everything we’ve tried. The lentil nachos punch way above their weight, their tacos are always good, their portobello french dip is deservedly one of their staples, and their bánh mì, with its massive slab of tofu, was surprisingly great too. I also really liked both variations of hollandaise slathered benedict brunch dishes I tried, though sadly nothing like that is on the menu at the time of me writing this review. As for the restaurant itself, it’s quite small, though thankfully not at all cramped, with food and drinks all being prepared right there behind the bar, and while it can be pretty loud on a busy weekend night, most of the time we’ve been there it’s been relatively slow with a welcoming, relaxed vibe. The clean, modern decor might not make for the most “cozy” ambiance, but I find it to be quite comfortable. Similarly, there’s nowhere great to park nearby, yet we’ve rarely had issues finding street parking. Actually, the relative ease of the entire dining experience at Box Bar is right up there with the food in why I like dining there so much. If we had actually been successful in relocating to West Seattle, I have no doubt that I’d be dragging us to Box Bar way too often, but as it is, I’m going to have to selfishly recommend that you give it a try instead.

Delicious brunch - Edit
I had the biscuits & gravy with tempeh bacon & cooked collard greens. It was delicious and I loved the combination of textures & flavors.
Read more(The menu pricing was a little confusing. It said $10/14 plus $3 for the tempeh but no differentiation between prices. I got charged $17.)
I was greeted with warm smiles when I entered. You get to seat yourself. I was the first customer on a Saturday and it was slow overall but started to pick up closer to 11.
It’s a small but cozy space.
Both the menu & paying your check are done digitally by scanning QR codes (I have mixed feelings on this).
If I’m back in West Seattle, I’ll probably stop back in.

Authentic Vegan Restaurant - Edit
I never visit Seattle without making a stop for brunch and/or dinner and drinks at Box Bar. The food is real, delicious and changes seasonally. They keep the favorites. Their wine and cocktails are great. I always get the Pink Ruby. You will see why five stars are well deserved. Eat and enjoy!

Best happy hour in West Seattle - Edit
Happy hour favs consisted of whipped tofu/feta, lentil nachos, jack fruit sliders, tofu sliders, chips and cashew dip, cocktails and rotating ginger beer. But that’s just what we ordered. There is even more on the happy hour menu.

Seattle vegan restaurant with some kick 🌶️ - Edit
There aren’t many vegan places around here that aren’t Thai/Indian/Mexican and still have some spice (maybe Wayward in the past 💔) but Box Bar nails it. Salad was better than you’d expect for house salad. Get the PB&J jalapeño poppers if they start offering them again! 21 only. Staff are very friendly.

I'm visiting a friend and her friends who aren't vegan decided to try this place with us. The five of us were not disappointed! One guy wasn't impressed with the tacos and I should have had him go for a sandwich. My only regret is I didn't try the Mac and cheese!!!! All of our cocktail were wonderful!

Decent brunch - Edit
Been wanting to come here for a while and today was finally the day. I settled with the tofu curry ramen and Mac & cashew cheese. The broth of the curry ramen didn’t taste too curry-e and it was a very small portion, in my opinion. It was ok but not something I will probably order again if I return here. The tofu did not at all taste fresh. They also didn’t have chopsticks which I did not like. I didn’t like the Mac at all.
Read moreI initially wanted to come here for brunch and I wish I did.
Update 3/19/2023: I went in for lunch and it was a much better experience than my previous. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with their tempeh bacon and greens. The biscuits and gravy were great, along with the greens. The greens had somewhat of a sweet taste but nothing over powering. The tempeh bacon I did not enjoy very salty. I would love to visit and try other items on their brunch menu.

OK but not my taste - Edit
Came in to try their brunch and got their biscuits and gravy and tofu rancheros. Food was OK—I didn’t like the collard greens that came with the biscuits (had something sweet in it that reminded me of baked beans). My partner thought the tempeh tried too hard to have the texture of bacon and it ended up overcooked. I thought the texture was ok but I didn’t like that it was sweet like maple bacon. The cashew gravy wasn’t bad but not super flavorful. It was improved with some hot sauce. Biscuits were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. 👌
Read moreI’d come here if I was in the area and try something else on their menu I might like more but I don’t think I’d come to west Seattle specifically for it.
