Good News

I look forward to sampling the vegan options at this eatery. This is good news to have more vegan options here in the harbor. I live in Boothbay so I will definitely be trying this place out.

Great vegan options

This was the best place in town and I would definitely go back. I got the polenta, butternut squash tacos, and the Tofu Moquesca. All really tasty. Such a wonderful surprise to find a place with so many vegan options in such a small town.

Pros: Options options options, Rooftop dining, Great view

Delicious crispy tofu!

I got the coconut tofu rice bowl and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Only a few vegan options but they are clearly labeled. Pricey but worth it for the harbor view and this delicious option.

Pros: Tofu made right!, Flavorful and beautiful vegan meal

Uneven but not a lot of other options in area

Some decent vegan options, I ordered the miso tofu and tofu was good and plentiful but sauce was so salty I couldn’t finish it. Hubster ordered coconut rice tofu and that was better- nice zip to it and not overly salty. In Boothbay Harbor there are so few vegan options that this may be one of the few places you could eat dinner. Nice view of harbor

Excellent vegan options!

It only would let me give 4 stars but this was a 5 star restaurant in my opinion!
My mom who is not vegan ordered off the vegan menu and loved her meal. They had an entire section of the menu with 8 meals labeled vegan. Probably a third of the rest of the menu was either vegetarian or vegetarian/vegan capable. Plus there were several appetizers that were vegan and vegetarian and they were marked well. I really loved my meal and appetizer and the drinks were delicious, too. 😁

Pros: Tons of vegan options, Several things that could easily be made vegan , Knowledgeable about menu items

Subpar

We had some good manchurian cauliflower but the pad thai was a really pathetic attempt at pad thai. It was just standard rice noodles with a couple pieces of carrot and broccoli in a watered down soy sauce. No peanuts, no sprouts, no tofu.. just very boring and way overpriced (I believe that dish was $24). Also, the veggies tasted very fishy. Quinoa cakes were decent but burnt and falling apart. While they do have a certain portion of their menu labeled “vegan”, read each dish description carefully because they are only vegan with omissions. For example, the “vegan” curry dish’s naan was not vegan, and a different dish labeled “vegan” mentioned quail eggs. Nice atmosphere with top deck but wouldn’t recommend it for anything other than small bites and drinks.

Whole section of menu is vegan/vegetarian

We came for lunch with a mixed party of omnivores and vegans, and everyone had good options and enjoyed their meals. More options for vegans than any other place we went to in the area.

Pros: Lots of options, Knowledgeable wait staff

Cons: only open on 3rd floor deck, may be tough climb

Boat House Bistro

A section of the menu marked vegan and vegetarian, and clearly denoted which options were vegan. Both my mom and I ordered vegan dishes, no modifications needed. We were pleasantly surprised. We saw mostly negative reviews here from a few years ago. Looks like the options are much better now! Definitely the most vegan friendly on the harbor. Service was quick and a nice view from the second floor. Check it out!

Went in the summer, just ok!

Meh! Modified a pasta dish to make it vegan, was ok. I’m not sure I would recommend to non vegans. Staff looked miserable and it hadn’t even been that busy. Bad energy!

Cons: Very few vegan options, Atmosphere , Cook has no idea what to do with tofu

Maybe try in the summer?

There's nothing vegan on this menu, and the only things that can be made vegan are salads. The salad was good though. My server told me that the summer menu has more vegan things on it. Definitely check first.

Pros: Good service

Cons: Still hungry

nice local spot

I had been excited to eat at the Boathouse, a local favorite, to sample the menu that has so many labeled vegan options. The service was fast and friendly, the wine was great, and unfortunately the meal was not awesome. I had the udon noodles and asked to add tofu, which was no problem. The meal was mediocre, not so tasty, some vegetables overcooked, and just a few bites of overcooked noodles in the dish. The Boathouse is such a preferred restaurant for locals, I wish I could eat there often, but I probably will not return. My husband had eaten there over the winter and loved the winter fare, and was extremely disappointed with his fish the night we ate there together, and he wondered if the products are different for the tourist season. The price of two not-so-great meals and a bottle of wine was $120. The drinks looked incredible, and the atmosphere is fun, so I might return for drinks.

Pros: vegan items labeled, many vegan options, nice drink and wine menu

Cons: meals were not good the night we ate here, pricey, not accessible- stairs to each level

summer menu vs. winter menu

We tried this restaurant in Dec and they only had 1 item that was vegan (the Pad Thai). They said in the summer they have many more vegan options. We will try them in the summer and write another review!!

Pros: by the harbor

Cons: winter menu is not as extensive as the summer one.
