Good food & perfect Astoria vibe

A few solid vegan options, good size portions. Star of the experience was the vegan chocolate croissant and cinnamon roll. Some items can be spicy so if that’s not your taste, inquire about options.

Delicious Food, Friendly Service

This is a lovely bakery-cafe that's open from morning to mid afternoon. I had lunch here on April 22, 2024. I ordered the TLT, a take on the classic BLT except it was made with tempeh, lettuce and tomato. Absolutely delicious!

It took a while for it to be prepared because it was quite busy at this hour. As I waited, I had a chance to look around the establishment. It gave me a good, comfortable vibe watching other diners enjoy the day and the freshly made bread. The atmosphere was busy, yet at the same time calming and relaxing.

The service at the counter was also great. Never feeling rushed to decide the person at the counter was happy to describe any item and let me know which were vegan or could be made vegan.

I will definitely be back here the next time I am in Astoria!

Pros: Friendly knowledgeable staff, An establishment with cool vibes

Best Reuben ever

The day I visited, they were sold out of their limited vegan treats in the case but I got the Reuben and it was sooooo good. One of the best I’ve ever had (& I live in Portland where we’re spoiled).
Also got some bread to go.

Better vegan option pre Covid

Love that this is a co-op and that most of the items are organic.
There are a few vegan options but the pale in comparison to what was on offer pre Covid.

Pros: Some vegan options, Mostly organic, Co-op

Poetic Provisions

I ordered the Poet's Bowl, which includes seasoned black beans, brown basmati rice, and salsa served with Scorcher bread. I added tempeh. Nothing exciting, but it was filling.

Handmaid Veg Meals

We went at breakfast time and it was quite busy. The food was worth the wait. The portabella sandwich with caramelized onions was amazing. They also had a vegan burrito on their board that had yams and black beans which was also good. They also have soy and oat milk available for lattes.

Pros: Full menu is at least vegetarian

Tasty, fast, and recommended

Delicious lunch, however small, even with two add-ons. Ordered the Poet’s Bowl with extra greens and sauerkraut. Flavors were fantastic. Presentation good. Food was served within minutes of finding a table even though the space was busy. I’ll definitely return, and order an additional side next time.

New menu items!

Every time we come to visit family, they take us here but I was not impressed in the past with only 2 vegan options that were not my preference. They now have 2 new options and I loved the yam burrito. It didn’t feel like the food was too heavy or oily which I appreciated.

Great vegan Ruben, needs more options

The vegan tempeh Ruben was really good! They also had a few vegan pastry/cookie options (we got the vegan lemon cupcake). Overall, what they have is very good but I wish there were more options, we really wanted breakfast but there is no vegan breakfast entree.

Pros: Options they have are very good, Good friendly service, Great coffee/espresso with alt milks

Cons: Very busy, we had to wait awhile for a spot to sit, Needs vegan breakfast entree options

Always visit when in Astoria

The tempeh Reuben is my favorite lunch here and I just discovered it can be ordered for breakfast too. Seems like there have been fewer vegan pastry possibilities lately, but the Cosmo cookie is, I think, pretty much always available and I really like it. We always come by the Blue Scorcher at least once when we visit Astoria.

Vegan burrito

Take out bakery. Some vegan meal items like the yam burrito—- huge, good to share. Bakery more vegetarian than vegan, i had a gluten free coffee cake. Really good coffee

Pros: Vegan options , Huge breakfast burrito , Nice staff

Cons: No indoor seating , Outdoor seating gets wet in rain

The yam burrito is liiiiife

I’ve gotten several things here and enjoyed all of them. The yam burrito, the poets bowl, and the tempeh sandwich. Great coffee, service, and food! While this isn’t a full vegan establishment, I do believe it is vegetarian so that makes it a wee bit easier for us when ordering and possibly needing to change things on certain dishes.

Cute downtown cafe

Loved the food— as you’d expect, crowded on a Sunday morning. Got the two vegan options a on menu, both were very delicious. Was a bit disappointed with their lack of vegan pasty options and the latte we had tasted pretty burnt 🙁

Tasty Tempeh Ruben¡!¡!

Have to specify vegan, but the Tempeh Ruben is so good we are going back tomorrow too! They listed a vegan yam burrito, but was sold out. Unfortunately I will not know how good it is, because I'm not gonna order anything other than the Ruben!!!!

Get the vegan rueben

It seemed during Covid at least, there was only one vegan option on the menu which was the tempeh rueben. You need to ask for vegan mayo but it is possible to be made vegan. The thick cut tempeh was soooo delicious! Also, in the bakery case there was a vegan chocolate applesauce cake so we got a slice of that. Very moist and tasty!

Pros: Meat alternatives , Very nice owner

Cons: Expensive , Mostly vegetarian items, Slow service

Token vegan cookies

The usual overpriced, token vegan cookies are clearly marked. I don’t recommend, unless you like overpriced, token vegan cookies.

Pros: 2 token vegan cookies

Cons: 2 token vegan cookies, Expensive

Scorcher for days!

Have the vegan Reuben (you do need to specify you want the vegan version), but just have it... go on... go now... eat the Reuben. I’ll wait.

Why haven’t you gone yet??? Eat the Reuben!

Yum!

The golden potatoes with green goddess we’re AMAZING! The soup was divine! The deluxe oatmeal was devoured in moments by my 12yo who rated it “the best”! Seven year old had applesauce cake and gobbled the entire piece down (& it was a generous size)!
The staff is friendly, helpful and pretty quick.
We might stay in the area to eat here again, so good.

Nice Worker Owned Co-op Bakery Cafe

There are limited gluten-free and vegan options on the menu, but I found what I was looking for--a filling, healthy, vegan meal. My meal was simple yet tasty. I really enjoyed the bustling (but not loud), friendly atmosphere. The cookie I had for dessert was fantastic. I believe it was called a cosmo. I love supporting co-ops! This is a warm and welcoming bakery/cafe where all can get a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere.

Pros: Welcoming vibe, Friendly service, Cooperatively-owned business

Cons: Limited vegan and gluten-free options

great!

Update: May 2018 and even better than before. We stop here every time we are in town and are more impressed with each stop. 2015: Finally a place to get vegan food in Astoria! Many options can be made vegan. Just ask. We were so impressed, we came back for lunch today.

Pros: many vegan options, everything was good. , next door to a good brewery
