Ich liebe die Biothek und hole mir immer wenn ich über die Mittagszeit in Wernigerode bin, dort mein Essen. Frisch zubereitet und immer lecker. Darüber hinaus ein nettes Team im Laden.

Nice shop, no chance to get a table - Edit
We wanted to have lunch at Biothek, but we tried twice and there was no chance to get a table. It seems that you have to be incredibly patient or lucky, at least during the holidays. However, we still visited the shop and we bought some cake to take back to our hotel.
Read moreThe place is tiny with just three tables inside, right in the middle of the shop, and a few more tables outside. Thus, it is very cramped and loud, which I found a bit stressful. The selection of items is absolutely fantastic for such a small shop, though. They have a bit of everything (fresh fruit and veggies, tofu, sweets, tea, cold drinks,…), which I didn‘t expect in such a small shop in a traditional town like Wernigerode.
The staff were very friendly and the choice of cakes was good, too, with three vegan cakes on offer.
We chose the apple cake and the bee sting cake. Bee sting cake was one of my childhood favourites and I‘ve never found a vegan one, so I haven‘t eaten one in more than a decade. While this one didn‘t live up to my memory (probably because it was more on the healthier side), it definitely tasted like bee sting cake and I enjoyed it a lot. The apple cake was not as good and seemed to have been a little old.

Full organic supermarket in the middle of beautiful old town - Edit
In the middle of beautiful (!) old town; full supermarket (organic). Vegan dish of the day, Friday is "soup day" until late. Veggies, vegan cookies, marmelade, wine, cheese (from milk), organic bread. Outdoor seating (around 6 places), some more seats inside. Sells 'organic' meat stuff (sausage spread) which is a local tradition that the shop won't let go. Noodle salad, spreads, lemonades. Not purely veg*n but an unusually well stocked super veg*n friendly store in such a location. Free vegan magazines, too.

Organic food shop with small cafe - Edit
We ate here on 30th June 2015. This is a medium sized shop selling organic products, including some vegan ones. You can also eat here, although they only have a few vegan dishes to choose from, such as salads and soups. They do have vegan biscuits and cakes. The staff are friendly and helpful, and speak some English.
