Their vegan afternoon tea was amazing, service was fab and very friendly and helpful, gorgeous shabby chic vintage surroundings and crockery. Really good food

Very pleasant

Since the last review (which was a few years ago) things have obviously changed. You can order an afternoon tea stand with two vegan sandwich options (hummus, avocado and carrot, or coronation chickpea), vegan plain, fruit or cheese scone, plus option of three vegan cakes on the day we ate. We didn’t book a table, although this might be recommended as we were just very lucky, many people arrived and were disappointed. But how lovely to be able to have a vegan afternoon tea without pre-ordering! Lots of lovely tea options which arrive in quirky mismatched tea pots, cups and saucers. Highly recommended, sorry I enjoyed eating it all before remembering I should have taken a photo!

Just cake unless you book

We followed the advice on the website and dropped in, rather than booking, but were a bit disappointed. Although it was very clearly labelled, there was only a single choice of vegan cake on the day of our visit. I gather they sometimes have more than one - but you probably have to book to get the full range.

They were able to provide soya milk on request and used a different shaped milk jug to keep it clearly distinct from the dairy milk - which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, though, they still decorated my plate with a swirl of full dairy cream with berries on the side. It was separate from the cake slice and not touching, which meant I was able to just ignore it, but it came as standard so an unwary customer might have assumed it was vegan cream ( I was with a non-vegan, so it was easier for me to spot).

It is a good start to have a tea room with vegan cake in the area and they do seem to be trying - just not quite understanding the concept yet. I wanted to give 2.5 stars really.

Pros: A vegan cake option clearly marked, Soya milk, Dog friendly

Cons: Limited options unless booked , Dairy cream side decorations as standard
