Gem in Bakersfield - Edit
I'm so glad Better Bowls is still around! The first time I ever visited they had a combined seating area with a coffee company next door. That has since changed - no seating available but they do have more food options including a wonderful grab n go section. On our last visit we grabbed their sushi, tiramisu, and peanut butter chocolate bites. I didn't love the sushi - maybe because we grabbed it towards the late afternoon and it was made it the morning? The rice was dry and one tiny packet of soy sauce didn't seem like enough. Tiramisu was really good and a nice chunk (I had to eat it in 2 sittings!). The PB bites made an excellent hiking snack. In general I like the bowls offered here, with the ability to make your own custom bowl. I also like that the business continues to evolve and switch up offerings. I'll certainly continue to support it.

Love this place! - Edit
They have the are to build your own bowls or to choose a premade and i make my own with the red pepper hummus which is amazing. The owner comes in sometimes and she’s super nice and helps decide what to order if you’re unsure. they also have some premade food and premade meals for the week. I’ve only tried the pumpkin spice coffee, golden milk, and iced coffee but there’s more and they’ve all been good! they also have daily ‘deserts’ like blueberry scones and bundt cakes😄

Better and Better - Edit
I liked my Jackfruit bowl so much, I ordered a Thai bowl to take on the road. You can build your own bowl from a variety of ingredients, and perhaps I was overwhelmed with the choices, so I went with their Signature Bowls list. No charge to substitute ingredients (I got fresh spinach instead of sliced raw jalapenos in my Jackfruit bowl). Only $10 for a large bowl. And did I mention it's all VEGAN? The owner says she has plans to open other locations, and I sure hope one is near me.

Buddha Bowl style food - Edit
Food is mostly whole food plant based awesome when you're looking for a healthy non fried option. I ordered the Bagel Lunchbox. It came with a cookie, cucumber salad, and watermelon lemonade. I loved it all. Soy based cream cheese was flavorful although I wish it had a bit more. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent food in fast-food time - Edit
This is a tiny shop in downtown Bakersfield with very friendly service. There are several basic bowls and you get to add veggies of your choice. They just scoop up the various ingredients from a hot table, so service is fast. I chose the Southwest bowl with added spinach and tomatoes. The basic ingredients were brown rice, black beans, corn, and avocado with lime juice. It was hearty and delicious.
Read moreI can't eat avocado, so I asked them to hold the avocado. Then my companion ordered something, and she wanted avocado added, which is an extra cost item. The server spontaneously offered to just give her the avocado I wasn't getting, so she didn't have to pay extra.
If you are ever driving US 99 and are going though Bakersfield, this is well worth the exit, and you won't have to wait a long time.
The Happy Cow description says takeout only, but they do have several small tables where you can eat.

Great healthy vegan food - Edit
Lovely welcome and service. Quick sit down or takeaway, Cafe style set up. Great choice of different bowls, mix of raw and cooked ingredients. Even a "build your own" option. Really close to the highway which was useful to us passing through. Felt wonderful after eating there.

Delicious vegan buddha bowls - Edit
Hubby and I visited the Brimhall Farmers Market with plan to get food from Hen’s Roost. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any ready made food available. Walking around, I happened to discover the Better Bowl booth and was immediately drawn to what they had to offer.
Read moreBetter Bowls offer a total of five buddha bowls with a different themes: American, BBQ Jackfruit, Mediterranean, Southwest and Thai. After looking at the menu offerings, I decided to order the mediterranean bowl which contained quinoa, fresh grape tomatoes, red onions, Persian cucumbers, kalamata olives, spiced chickpeas and a roasted garlic tahini sauce.
After placing my order, the bowl was quickly prepared and presented to me. You can choose to have a small bowl or a big bowl. I ordered a big bowl and it was very filling and refreshing. The flavors mixed well together and the big bowl is big enough for two to share.
Although Better Bowls are currently only available at the Brimhall Market on Sundays, they do have plans to moved to a physical location (1818 G St.) sometime soon. The lady at the table was friendly, the food was delicious and I look forward to visiting again and trying another flavor of buddha bowls.
Pros: Filling bowl, Diverse bowl choices , Gluten free
Cons: Limited availability
