Not a lot of vegan options when I went - Edit
They had a few things that could be made vegan on the menu, but nothing in the cabinet and they suggested I go somewhere else when I asked about options. The vegan stack was really nice and the coffee was decent as well

Quality not quantity - Edit
Two vegan menu items. A vegan stack which was a hashbrown, guac, tomato, mushroom, tofu, and greens and a tofu burger. Only had the stack but it was excellent. Great coffee with the usual plant milks.
Read moreWe asked for some avo toast and they were happy to oblige. Nice staff.
There’s few vegan options in this town so take what you can get.

So the smoothie was really nice. But unfortunately the granola comes so dry, it is almost uneatable

Lovely little gem - Edit
Super cute cafe a little outside the main town. Has a few vegan options including granola, a vegan stack, burger, and bagels with varying toppings. I’m sure they would be more than happy to accommodate any other menu item vegan or veggie (avo toast etc)
Read moreCoffee is nice, they did NOT clean the milk wand after steaming non dairy milk so please be warned of this. Very busy, wait time was 15 minutes around for cabinet food and coffee.
Pros: Nice vegan options, Friendly staff, Milk alternatives

Excellent! - Edit
The Beach House Cafe is just next door to the Lazy [censored] Backpackers and across the road from Top 10 holiday park, so great walking location for breakfast. Slightly crowded when we first walked in, wasn’t sure where to stand (some customers seemed to be waiting for takeaways or waiting to order but it was not clear). Our server rarely looked me and my partner in the eye but took our order down correctly. I noticed a few vegan options on the board, including a vegan stack, burger, avocado toast, and I imagine the nachos could also be made vegetarian/vegan. $66 seems a bit pricey for 2 breakfasts, a coffee and a smoothie, but I suppose Kaikōura is a tourist destination, so it is to be expected.
Read moreThere was a mix of two-person and family tables and chairs in the dining area adjacent to the order area, and a log burning fire in the centre. Considering the windows were single glazed and the front door was opening and closing often, it was surprisingly warm and cosy, and the decor added to this welcoming feel. We took a seat in front of the fire, where there was plenty of wood available to be used.
The vegan stack was a good portion size, and a nice mix of whole food veggies; cauliflower, spinach, tomatoes, beetroot hummus and a large hash brown. The oat milk latte was a little bitter to begin, but I enjoyed the rest of it. My partner had hot cakes with bacon, and it had meringue and cream too. She enjoyed it, but could not manage the full portion provided. She also had the banana smoothie, which was delicious! I did not know whether it was vegan, but I tried it anyway and I can confirm her assessment! With a sprinkle of cinnamon on top, it was perfect for a cold morning.
Overall, I can confidently give the Beach House Cafe four stars. I apologise if this review sounds a little negative, I am merely trying to be thorough. I genuinely did have a very enjoyable experience here, especially considering it’s my birthday! Thanks very much and we’ll be back soon.

Good sized meal, with delicious balance of flavours. Would be 5 star if the app didn’t limit it to 4.

Good not great - Edit
The veggie stack I had was pretty similar to a standard vegan version of a British breakfast in that it had potatoes, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, and some sautéed spinach. It was fine, and nice to have the option in such a small town, but it certainly wasn’t anything terribly original. A decent enough option but nothing that stands out at all for quality, execution, or value.

Todays special was a vegan stack however I asked to change as I don't like avocado. I had spinach, mushrooms, asparagus and beans. On way out I noticed I was missing the toast offered.
