Breakfast for two - Edit
Small café with friendly staff. We got the breakfast for two and it was good; especially the scrambled tofu sandwich - yum!

average food - Edit
We ordered the bibimbap and the tempeh sandwich and both were average at best unfortunately. The sizes are good and the plates look beautiful, everything is very fresh.
Read moreIt did not have a lot of taste however, which was quite unfortunate. The rice was basic and a little overcooked, the tempeh did not have seasoning and the chickpeas plus hummus were just really not good.
Maybe my expectations were too high? Will not return in any case and would recommend you to try other places in the neighborhood.
Pros: Good meal size, Fresh vegetables
Cons: Not tasty, expensive for an average meal

A very healthy vegan place - Edit
The food was very healthy, but bland. The green smoothie was very lumpy and felt like a chore to finish. The pancakes were tasteless, not fluffy and had the constistency of brick. When I told them I didn't like them, they offered me another dish instead. The service was very good! The soup and salad were quite nice, but still, very healthy...

Really wholesome and tasty food. The egg salad sandwich was to die for. Very fair prices and good portions. They make omnivore dishes taste better by turning them vegan- without being junky either. Will come back.

amazing vegan breakfast, very friendly staff - Edit
This amazing café is now called Bataat. I’ve never had such a good vegan breakfast experience. Everything is vegan and so yummy! I ordered buckwheat pancakes with berrys, a croissant with marmelade (this one was a bit dry though) and a hot chocolate. 😋 My boyfriend had the egg salad sandwich with sprouts, the sausage roll and a coffee. We were very pleased with the welcoming staff, they were so friendly and even brought us a bigger table as we ordered so much food. Overall a very good experience! Definitely recommended! 🤩

Perfect for breakfast or bunch with very fair prices - Edit
They recently changed their name. But they have sandwiches, pancakes, croissants and even vegan saussage rolls. Perfect for breakfast or brunching. On top of that they have very fair prices for a restaurant like that in Amsterdam.

Read more(EN) So happy with this vegan restaurant wich has a big menu. It's a perfect place for lunch.😋 We ordered a sausage roll, "egg" salad sandwich and a sloppy joe via Thuisbezorgd.nl . I thought the egg salad didn't necessarily tasted like egg, but it was very tasty. The sausage roll and sloppy joe tasted also good! 🌱 And for your information the place is no longer called "Beter & leuk" but "Bataat".

Soup and Salad - Edit
Ordered the combination of soup and salad (on Deliveroo... because Corona). The soup was nice: a bit spicy and full of flavour. But the salad was outstanding. Really delicious. Loved it!

The menu is offering almost any meal in a gluten-free version, so there are many opportunities. The food was very delicious. I can recommend the buckwheat pancakes - the most fluffiest pancakes I ever had!

Nice little cafe - Edit
I have been here many times and it is a favorite place among friends and colleagues. The menu is small but what they offer is fresh and tasty with some of the nicest pancakes I have had so far in Amsterdam. Just be sure to get there early as some things tend to get stale later in the day. Nice in summer when you can sit out the front and they have a great selection of drinks including my favourite Kombucha. One of only things that annoys me is sometimes the staff can be a little bit grumpy :/

Eh.. - Edit
How do you burn a croissant? You come to Beter & leuk they will teach you how. Burnt croissants and lumpy (yes lumpy) coffee. The service was slow it took 30 mins to get service. We had two croissants and one eggless salad sandwich. First the coffee was horrible, lumpy and grainy not smooth at all. I don’t know what they did but they need to undo it. The eggless salad was under seasoned and the lentil salad that came with it was and after thought that really didn’t need to be there as it was as flavorless as the eggless salad. But I take issue with the burnt, hard croissant.. why burn something that we all know should never be burned, should never be hard? This is a delicate French pastry that should be light and easy to pull apart, not a hard shell that when you tapped on it with a knife it didn’t move. It was a waste of money and time. Don’t entertain coming here as it will surely disappoint.

Delicious flavor combinations - Edit
We shared the Bibimbap and the Spinach Pancake and they both were great. The tempeh was perfectly marinated and it’s always a special treat to get a vegan pancake. The chocolate brownie was yummy and the scone was also delicious. In addition, we loved the quaint eclectic decor.

Pretty good - Edit
The croissant was excellent, and a good vegan croissant is hard to come by. The pancakes were pretty good. They were a little dense, but I attribute that to them being buckwheat. Nice staff. Sweet little spot.
