Good in a group - Edit
There is a small clearly marked vegetarian section on the menu. The two main dishes are for sharing with two people. I had the plantain option and shared it, which was very tasty and fresh. There is also a vegan croquette. Word of warning - I ordered the side of black beans thinking it was vegan but it contains chorizo, so don't order the black beans ! I wouldn't come here alone but it's a good place to come if with non vegans in a group

Traditional Brazilian but vegan style - Edit
Had a very local feel, interior and service both very good. 3 x vegan main dishes, all Brazilian but vegan versions, good sized portions. Good option if you're with meat eating company.

Worth a visit - Edit
The last review here was from 2015. This really needed an update, as this is a very good place to visit and eat at.
Read moreIt is packed regardless of when you go. People buy food and drinks and some sit along the sidewalks to enjoy it.
This is a vibrant place, man locals, many tourists. You get a very legit experience of Rio.
You can have fried yucca as an appetizer and their current main vegan dish is rice, beans, sautéed collards, pumpkin purée.
This is a classic place and will immerse you in the mix that is Rio.

Vegan Feijoada - Edit
If you go to Santa Teresa only to eat at this place, you will be disappointed. Santa Teresa is my favourite place in Rio and where I used to live, but I am not supposed to write a review about a beautiful neighborhood. Bar do Mineiro used to be a local bar which served quality food to a good price. Today it is a tourist trap. If you go to Santa Teresa to enjoy the artistic environment and the art galleries, have lunch, or dinner, at Bar do Mineiro, because it is actually the only restaurants that serves a vegan feijoada in this area. It is also a great option if your friends are carnivores!

only restaurant listed here for Sunday pm - Edit
located in a bohemian, historical & difficult access section of Rio. Public transportation by bus takes a long time and a taxi ride is probably best option. I did take the bus, but waited a long time and was unsure where to get off. The Bar do Mineiro Veg option was typical Brazilian fare and was filling, the price was equivalent to 20 U.S. dollars, for one simple serving, but Rio is an expensive dining city so normal by comparison to other restaurants. Food ordered was typical vegetarian feijoada a la carte, it was vegan and very good. Many people drinking excessively, slow service, loud talking and unkept and unsanitary dining room. Rio is a sad and barren city for vegetarians, and this restaurant does not change the fact. The restaurant has a historical interest, in an interesting location, Santa Teresa has maintained a historical landmark interest but too bad the trolley cars no longer go there.

A bit of tradition - Edit
This restaurant is perfect to go with meat eaters friends who cant eat any veggie... They can eat their feijoada, and you can have a vegetarian version of it. They dont only make a vegetarian version. They searched all recipes and took the feijoada nordestina, which originally is made with brown beans and zucchini, carrots and lady finger replacing the meat. The farofa is still there, as the couve and cachaças. One of the few vegetarian options at the traditional region of Santa Teresa.
