Get the fried lotus root - Edit
Decent menu with pictures. Food is quite good. Terrible service even by Chinese standards though!

Delicious veg Chinese dishes - Edit
I really enjoyed the food here, particularly the veg curry and a mushroom dish. My Chinese is very limited but I was able to communicate with the staff, who were friendlier than the average wuhanese!

Fantastic restaurant - Edit
I need to disagree with all previous reviews mentioning how rude the people are at Batong Temple’s Buddhist Restaurant. The staff here were extremely courteous to me, helping me with my bags, offering recommendations, being extremely polite. Even though I communicated in Chinese one of the servers spoke some English back to me. Highly recommended. Their fried lotus root was amazing!

It was ok but pricy - Edit
I didn't really like it. The food was okay but pricy. I paid 40rmb for a small bowl of curry and the mock meats had this strange sweet taste. The platter of mockmeats was ok. I spent around 90rmb which was a ripoff because just down the road or next subway stop (guangbuton) there is a new vegan buffet restaurant that opened and only costs 20rmb.

New and improved - Edit
I was a bit weary after seeing the earlier reviews. Pleasantly surprised to find friendly staff, great variety of mock meats, veggies and Chinese dishes. They even had a curry! Definitely worth returning to. Stay away from the corn soup.

Don't bother if you don't speak Mandarin - Edit
The workers here were really unfriendly, bordering on hostile. I think it was because I don't speak Chinese. I know it's imperialist to expect all the waiters in the world to speak English and be servile, and so I don't expect it, and I try to be humble when I attempt to communicate. But at this place they wouldn't even return my smile. There's a certain brusqueness to service people in China which I respect. But these people took it to another level. And it's also fine to refuse to serve someone (especially annoying tourists!), but it can be done politely or rudely. They did it very rudely. And when I returned to try again (this time with a Chinese friend) they had closed-up early. So we went elsewhere (without trying the food) and I recommend you do the same.

Buddhist vegetarian restaurant - Edit
Chinese buddhist vegetarian restaurant.
Read moreThe resturant is located just at the exit of the buddhist temple on Wuluo Lu.
The food is chinese and vegetarian. You can eat during the whole day and take out some snacks.
The dumplings are very nice.
But the staff is not very welcoming especially if you're not in the "busy" hours
Pros: well located, large portions
Cons: a bit gloomy
