Ok food - Edit
Quite a few options on the menu which made me happy. We opted for the Native Vegan crackers, sweetcorn fritter balls and vegan satay as starters. Our main was the Tamarind Spicy Aubergine with a portion of fries. All the food was fine except the aubergine dish which had very little tofu in it, was a little tasteless and very greasy. Service was good, overall we enjoyed it but wouldn’t rush back as it was quite pricey for what it was.

Thai restaurant with vegan menu - Edit
Had dinner here tonight and everything was great. Food and service were both good. I had the Singapore Laksa with tofu. The server said it was going to be spicy but it was not too hot. I really enjoyed the sauce. They also had 2-4-1 cocktails all day which is fun. Good spot for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Don’t trust - Edit
I ordered the Thai green curry with vegan bites and they gave me the one with chicken. Disgusting level of negligence for somewhere which proudly presents its vegan options. Avoid, order from somewhere else. I’d send a photo as evidence but it’s against TOS.

Okay - Edit
I ordered a tofu and aubergine dish that had not a single piece of tofu in there. When I complained the waitress said “yeah it’s a small dish” implying I should have ordered something else. When I showed to her there was literally no tofu she took it back and I was able to exchange the dish for a green curry which I appreciated and tasted quite nice but not amazing. Wouldn’t come back here unless there were no other options.

Not as good as I remember - Edit
I used to love Banana tree but I haven’t been in a few years.
Read moreI saw an ad for new vegan options so I thought I’d try it out. I used to go to the Soho branch but this time it was closest to Islington so I thought why not.
I ordered their sesame crackers (vegan equivalent of prawn crackers) and Edamame. The sesame crackers are horrible. Don’t waste your money. They are hard, tasteless and really do just taste like cardboard. The edamame wasn’t that great either. Not sure how you can get the seasoning on edamame so bland. It can’t be that difficult.
However, the Vegan Coconut Kari with Coconut Milk is amazing 😋 Absolutely delicious. Best thing about the whole visit and the dish to order if you go BT. It’s why I gave them three stars otherwise they would have got two.
My recommendation is to go to Pho (website Pho Cafe) instead. Pho‘s vegan food is much tastier and less hit and miss.
Pros: Vegan Coconut Kari with Coconut Milk
Cons: Sesame Crackers - yuk

Tasty and convenient - Edit
I was looking for somewhere with a good range of veggie food which was located close to Sadler's Wells (where I was attending a performance that evening). The Banana Tree met both those requirements perfectly. It's a five minute walk from both Angel tube station and the theatre. Whilst it serves meat dishes, there's a separate menu which indicates all the vegetarian and vegan items, plus gluten free options. The food itself was excellent, especially the spring rolls we had as a starter. Definitely recommended!

Cons: A little on the pricey side
