They added a restaurant - Edit
Lovely people, clean fresh food with plenty of vegan options. I was so happy they make vegan Mucver (zuchinni fritters) and Manti. Food was good and filling, they gave me a free dessert and some good WW sourdough bread. 100 TL is a fair price for organic vegan food here. Happy camper.

Not a cafe anymore - Edit
Went here and tried to talk to the owner but he doesn’t speak English. He kept saying “no restaurant” so I’m assuming that means its not a cafe anymore and only a store.

Visit this place, if you can! - Edit
Hello to all cows!
Read moreThis is a very nice and place to have good food. It's simple, but fast served, tasty, not too expensive and the owners are friendly people. The ingrediënts that they don't know the right English word for, they'll grab those out of the shop and show them to you. And if you still can't manage, Turkish shopvisitors will be willing to help, to translate your dinner-order. Besides that, if you ate some new ingrediënt you liked, you can buy it in the shop right away. The best thing about eating at Balya is that you sit on one of three small 2-person tables, in the middle of a small grocery shop, with makes it a special experience.
I recommend this place to everybody visiting Istanbul. The lentil-soup and the vegoburger are the only things we tried, they're very good. You should go there and try some more of their products and let us know! :)
Pros: Helpful owners, Tasty food, Nice place (you sit in a shop)
Cons: None

Vegan Breakfast Platter! - Edit
Go here for breakfast, sit outside at one of the cute tables they have under the trees, order the vegan breakfast platter. It is pricey but substantial and will make you feel happy. If you are 2 people you can almost share the platter, but might as well try one of the other vegan options too like the chick pea burger.

Interesting flavours! - Edit
We stopped by for a late lunch after a visit to the nearby Museum of Innocence (very well worth a visit too!) and had two different types of sandwich and soup. Everything was fresh and the ingredients and flavours were really interesting. The shops sells a good mix of food and some eco cookware too - was only a bit disappointed that there didn't seem to be many local products on offer. Just to emphasise that there are only a few tables outside and two small tables inside so do bear that in mind if you're going in winter and travelling to get there.

Cons: A bit on the pricier side, Not much seating

The place to be - Edit
I'm on a trip in europe and was so happy to finally find a resturant as great as this! The staff was amazing... very friendly and always smiling! the atmosphere was great! the room looked very "green" with all those wood and vegetables! and the food was the top of the iceberg :-). I ate a wonderful vegan hamburger with salad (it had a chocalte sauce!!!) with lots of different cakes and a very good smoothie!

Great Vegetarian place - Edit
The Balya Organik Cafe is a great place to have a vegetarian/vegan breakfast/lunch/dinner in the centre of Istanbul (it's very close to the Galata tower). The staff is very friendly and they can prepare you anything you want even if it's out of the menu (for example, I didn't want a cheese sandwich, I asked for a tofu sandwich and they did it in no time).

Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, Location

It's about half a mile walk from the Galata tower, if you want to go here it's probably easier to go from Taksim and walk down towards Cihangir, or get off at Tophane metro stop and take the first right when going up the hill on Bogazkesen Cd.

Total miss - Edit
First of all this is not a vegetarian restaurant. At best it should be classified as "veggie friendly." They serve fish.
Read moreSecond, not an appealing place to eat. The service was absolutely lackluster. The server was milling around apparently doing nothing, while I was sitting there for 20 minutes waiting for him to take my order or at least acknowledge my presence. There were a couple of other guests, but that's it. The restaurant wasn't busy.
Not a good value. I went in with the expectation that I could have a proper lunch after hiking around Istanbul all day. By the way, it is a bit of a hike to get to the restaurant, especially if you're unfamiliar with the lay of the land. Anyway, first the menu I was given looks nothing like the menu on their web site. So, I ordered a "veggie burger" with salad - a safe standby when the menu looks otherwise questionable - and they brought me this strange patty on a slice of bread with nothing on the plate that resembled a salad. That's what I got for my 18 TL. That's around 10 USD.
Cons: Service, Food, Not a vegetarian restaurant

Gorgeous brownie and banana cake! - Edit
Thank you, Balya, you made my day with the delicious vegan brownie and banana cake i bought from your shop today! I am so glad that I came into the shop on my last day in Istanbul - otherwise I would never have had the pleasure ;-)
