Niche location

(with Happy Cow’s new rating system - which I strongly dislike - I am adjusting my rating to 3 stars from the former 4 stars that I had given it)

My friend and I who were traveling to Chicago on a day trip found ourselves a little dehydrated, so we scoped around for a place to buy smoothies. My friend came upon Balu online.

The smoothie store is on the SECOND FLOOR OF A GYM. So it’s harder to find from the street. Also a little awkward to walk in the gym and head straight to the smoothie bar in street clothes.

The prices I would say were average, maybe a little higher ($8-13 depending on type and size). You could create your own smoothie with a base. They had a few omni choices of Greek yogurt and whole milk, but many more vegan options of unsweetened coconut milk, almond milk, (I forget the rest).

My friend and I both ordered from their established menu instead of the build your own option. They both had a juice concentrate “base” so it was a little less creamy than I was originally hoping for.

The place also offers a few non-vegan food options and maybe vegan too? There was a “toast” section, but we didn’t explore it.

Bring your reusable straw!

Refreshing

Nice place to get a smoothie after working out. Located inside LA Fitness on 2nd floor.
