Mediterranean Veg-Friendly

I've been veg since 1991 and vegan since 1996, and this was one of the first restaurants in the area that clearly marked veg food on their menu and offered to adapt vegetarian items to make them vegan. They even created a tofu burger and my favorite dessert "the ugly duckling." Awesome food, always friendly atmosphere. Love all of their locations.

Pros: Clearly marked and wide variety of veg food

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT EVER!

I wish I could give it five stars, but it's not possible on this app. The customer service is amazing, the food is phenomenal! There aren't very many vegetarian options (although there's more than most places), I don't think there are any vegan options but I could be wrong.

Pros: amazing everything

Cons: not too many veggie people options

Excellent Mediterranean Food!

This Mediterranean restaurant has a lot of vegan options available, and everything we’ve tried has been excellent. The menu is clearly labeled with vegan and vegetarian options tagged. We’ve tried and enjoyed the baba ghanouj, hummus, baked falafel, lentil soup, and wraps made with baba ghanouj and hummus. All have been great! The falafel also is available in a more traditional, fried version, but we ordered the baked version, as it seems healthier and it has been really tasty. The menu has a tofu/vegetable patty that is available in a burger or in a wrap, although we haven’t tested this yet. We enjoyed the fact that there are a couple of vegan dessert offerings that are not the boring sorbet many restaurants offer if they have anything available at all. Although there is not a huge array of vegan desserts, my hubby loves the “ugly duckling,” which is a date stuffed with almond marzipan and topped with a cashew before being dipped in a vegan chocolate. My favorite is the oatmeal cookie: although this sounds basic, it is the best oatmeal cookie I’ve ever had, with lots of interesting seeds in addition to the more traditional oatmeal cookie ingredients. Our friends tell is that the gazpacho (available only in mid summer when fresh tomatoes are in peak season) is awesome. I can’t wait to try that. Although the menu identifies vegetarian pizzas, I have not asked details but wonder if it would be possible to create a vegan version by simply omitting cheese. It would be awesome if a Azars would come up with a vegan pizza for the menu. My omni young-adult kids like the meat-based food, making Azars a place the whole family can agree on happily.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Good vegan dessert!, Good place for mixed group of vegans & omnis

Cons: Vegan pizza would be nice, Poor visibility from Road

Favorite Mediterranean Restaurant

I always get the hummus, tabouleh, falafels, and lentil soup. It adds up to be somewhat expensive but it's so good that I have to have it all! So delicious!

Pros: Excellent Food, Vegan Options Clearly Labeled, Friendly Staff

Finally, Delicious Mediterranean/Mid Eastern Food!

While driving around Virginia Beach, starving, we checked out Yelp and were led to Azars. The food was phenomenal. We have been back since then. We each had a full sandwich. A Kefta and a Baba Ghanouj ran us about $18. For a cheapskate like myself, the quantity was not quite worth $9, but the quality absolutely was. The sandwiches came with very good hummus and the pitas were great.

There are both meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. All are marked clearly on the menu and the selection is plentiful. I have never been there in the evening, but in the afternoon the dining room has never been crowded.

Pros: Delicious, filling portion, lots of selection

Cons: small dining area, prices a little high

Awesome food

I've been coming here since I was 17. Great salads, desserts, and probably the most underrated selection of pizzas in Virginia Beach. Try the "By George" pizza if you eat real cheese. The falafel is decent. A few years ago, they changed the mammoul cookies, which bummed me out to a degree, but the new cookies are just fine.

Pros: friendly staff, awesome food

Cons: gets very crowded at night
