Great Food and Service.

Great vegan options in meze and main courses, the highlight for me is the vegan pumpkin desert it’s absolutely delicious. Staff are great.

No vegan bread

We did book in advance and tell them we were vegan so we were surprised to be informed when ordering that the flatbread wasn't vegan which did change the meal somewhat as we didn't order hummus. We had the 3 hot mezze dishes and chickpea salad. We shared a main of imam bayadi. They gave us cucumber and carrot instead of the bread but we weren't sure what to do with it! However the olives and pickles were most welcome.
I'd say the meal was average, dolma was poor and the aubergine mezze seemed to be mostly potato but the chickpea salad was good. Whilst the imam bayadi looked impressive it wasn't awfully flavourful compared to our local Turkish restaurant. We did have a bottle of wine (that I checked online was vegan) which added £20 to the bill but £65 seemed a lot for the amount of food we had. Sadly (because I prefer not to support chains) we had a better meal the next night for less money at the Brewers Fayre on the outskirts of town. Just saying so people know it's another option nearby Cockermouth which is a little lacking in options.

Pros: Labelled vegan options, Good service even on Saturday night

Cons: Bread not vegan and given raw veg instead!, Expensive , Ok food but not that tasty!

Lovely restaurant, great food and service

Stayed in Cockermouth for a few days and booked table at Aspava for our first evening. The restaurant is in a lovely little courtyard off the high street.

Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was very tasty.
We went for a few meze options of hummus, kisir (cous cous) and Sarma (rolled vine leaves) and for main course I had the stuffed aubergine (Imam Bayaldi) and hubs had the vegetarian Guvec.
All dishes were so full of flavour and good sized portions.
We loved it so much we wanted to return to the restaurant for another evening but ran out of time. Will definitely return next time we’re in the area.

Also want to mention, when I got back to my hotel room I realised one of my earrings was missing. I contacted the restaurant on the off chance it may have fallen out in there. A lovely lady called Tracey got back to me and said she will look for me, even going as far as reviewing the camera footage by the door to see if I was wearing both earrings when I left. So helpful and kind to go to all that trouble. Very much appreciated :-)

Good food & Excellent service

It was quite hard to find some vegan food in the area. We went to Aspava with the hope that there might be some good vegan options among the vegetarian dishes that they marked. Did not regret that at all! The staff (especially the lady) was very kind and attentive, informed us the ingredients of the dishes and vegan options that we could have. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Just a little warning that vegans may want to avoid sitting near the opened kitchen at the front, as they showcase some flesh meat.
