Great falafel wrap! - Edit
They are attached to a bar so it can get loud but the portions are good sized and delicious. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of my falafel wrap but it comes with tomatoes and cucumbers and it was so good. My husband had a burger because they have a black bean burger and not just frozen impossible patties.

Take out update: Beef on weck traveled well , as did the wing sampler despite taking half an hour to get to us.

Friendly Neighborhood Diner - Edit
Punk rockers, guys and girls...about ten in number, all wearing perhaps, a few faux black leather jackets--some with spiked hair up to the ceiling--were all seated together at two adjoining tables in the middle of the room. To the left was a man, mid 30's, sitting at a booth beside his elementary school-aged daughter, helping her decide what to order. I personally applaud this...a restaurant that has transcended the boundaries of social prejudices, and becomes a place of welcome in the community by mere virtue of compassion, simple cultural awareness, and where nonuniformity is the norm.
Read moreBuffalo, at the time, had no vegan restaurant, so this became my "go to place" whenever I was in the neighborhood. Went there about three times, and never a problem.
You wait to be seated, which is kinda nice. Or better yet, have a seat at the sit-down counter with your newspaper and order a cup of coffee. Live it up, my fellow beyond-middle-age comrades.
I always ordered breakfast--Tofu Scramble--which was presented on a perfectly round lightly colored plate, adhering to the diner style atmosphere. It was a sufficient amount of food for the price. The employees were all easily accessible, and having spoken to a person busy mopping the floor...ergo, I can say, there was no sign of taciturnities present.
Amy's Place is located near the Metro Rail, which will take you to and from downtown Buffalo.
Four stars is earned here automatically. A five star rating would be generously given, were they open everyday, accompanied by a flashing neon sign out front, and to be completely earnest, 100% vegan.

Tons of vegan choices. - Edit
Had the feel of just a small little family diner. It had a lot of choices for vegans and meat eaters. Most of the meat dishes could be substituted with seitan or tofu strips. They have vegan wings and a good vegan mac and cheese. They used the seitan to make vegan reubens, vegan "beef on weck" and other things. Although it wasn't a dirty place, the only con was that it wasn't the most spic and span, spotless place. Didn't bother me though.

Super satisfying breakfast - Edit
This was a very filling and delicious breakfast! Love the “1-1-1” and “2-2-2” options. The “1-1-1” with 1 pancake, 1 serving of tofu scramble, and 1 piece of tofu bacon was the perfect amount of food for breakfast without feeling overly stuffed. We also tried the cinnamon french toast, lentil & broccoli mash, and seitan that was like a bbq rib flavor. Everything was delicious and the servers were friendly and helpful :)

Every time I am in town I get breakfast here. There is tofu scramble, but the real treasure is the lentil and broccoli mash, imo.

Buffalo is lucky to have Amy’s! - Edit
How awesome to have an all vegetarian diner in Buffalo’. It has a ton of vegan options, and some items have dairy and or eggs, but no animal flesh. Lots of comfort foods that you would find in any other beloved diner, but veganized or made vegetarian as needed. Friendly service, ample street parking, casual and delicious. They have a breakfast and lunch menu and there is a lot to choose from. I had a tofu scramble with mushroom, broccoli and vegan cheddar. So good. My daughter had a Mexican “burger” piled high with chili. My husband had a seitan dish. All so good!

It's oddly hard to find vegan breakfast spots. Amy's place is vegetarian with lots of vegan options & huge portions! Our son with ASD & quite the picky eater approved the french toast & pancakes! Good & quick service & lots of seating.

Re-Opened, 100% Vegetarian, 95% vegan! - Edit
Amy's Place is a Buffalo institution and a trail blazer is vegan and vegetarian options. They've re-opened after being closed for a good chunk of the pandemic. Amy's has diner food with a Lebanese twist and lots of options for both junk food vegans and those who strive for five servings a veggies.
Read moreAmy's was #lovinlentils before they were cool. They have amazing spiced lentils you can get in a wrap, on a salad, or over fries. The veggie wet shoes are pile of curly fries smothered in seasoned lentils that have been grilled with onions, green, peppers, and tomatoes and while vegans used to have to order them without cheddar cheese, new for 2021, can be topped with vegan cheddar cheese.
In fact, almost the entire menu is now vegan by default. Everything that used to have cheese now comes without - cheese is available as an add on, including vegan cheddar and provolone.
Their house-made seitan is bursting with flavor and can be ordered as a side, as wings (or "Buffalo Wings" to out-of-towners), or in a variety of sandwiches and wraps. The Biff Sandwich, which while not on the menu 20 years ago, was one the original items that was always vegan without modification - barbeque sauce smothered seitan on a roll slathered with garlic spread topped with tomato, onion, and spinach.
While everything used to be almost entirely made in house, it appears that commercially made "fried chick'n" nuggets and Impossible burgers are in the mix. Tofu strips and house blackbean burgers are available as well. Most sandwiches give you the choice of seitan, tofu, or "fried chick'n."
Menu is streamlined right now as they just reopened, are training line cooks, and have not yet phased in table service.
They have vegan wings and Beef on Weck, so if you're from out of town, this is a great place to try a vegan version of Buffalo's famous foods.

Awesome greasy spoon diner with mostly veg menu - Edit
Awesome greasy spoon breakfast/lunch place! It's funny how the review before me out the retro decor as a con, for my partner and I it was a huge plus! Love these kinds of spots but of course they aren't for everyone. Just know that this is not a white table cloths kinda place. It's across from UB South Campus and clearly caters to hungry students.
Read moreAnyway, about the FOOD!! The menu is extensive and there's a vegan option for nearly every menu item. The only reason this place isn't vegetarian is cuz of one dish (schwarma). Other than that it's all veg. Vegan options for nearly all dishes. Tofu scramble instead of eggs, giant vegan cookies, vegan breakfast meats, vegan chikn sandwich, etc.
The vegan beef on weck was AMAZING. The beef on weck is a Buffalo staple and if you're visiting, you must try it! The seitan was absolutely perfect, the roll was on point, it was just a great sandwich.
There are also to go containers of Mac n cheese, vegan tuna salad, vegan blue cheese, etc. You can get a half pint, pint, or quart!
Note that towards closing they tend to be out of popular dishes but that's fine with us, all the more reason to come back.
Pros: Vegan option for nearly every menu item, Greasy spoon diner vibes, Affordable

Vegan comfort food - Edit
Great vegan wings, "beef" on weck (a sandwich found only around Buffalo, as far as I can tell), vegan mac, vegan BLT. We also had a huge vegan peanut butter cookie. Everything was delicious and the servers were very friendly. Even my 94 year old mom enjoyed it (she's not vegan but she never eats more than a quarter of her food so we have to find places like this that have vegan options so we can help her finish). I'm looking forward to trying their vegan breakfast options (served all day).

Diner and Middle Eastern Fare with choices - Edit
We were wonderfully overwhelmed by all the choices on this menu: some are already vegan standalone; others are readily adapted with tofu or seitan substitutions. The seitan slices are made in house; the chunks are outsourced per an employee. The lentils and broccoli were delicious; tabouli fresh and refreshing; BBQ seitan just right. Portions are huge, and prices are low. The interior has a fun, grunge sensibility.

Loved breakfast there - Edit
My husband and I are traveling and he was craving pancakes, I figured there was no way we'd find vegan pancakes. But we ended up at Amy's and we were super happy about it!! The pancakes were fluffy and so good, I had the cinnamon bun French toast, yum! The lentils were spicy but good, I'm glad I only got a little as a side which was perfect. Also, the coffee was really good!! Would happily return.

While not entirely vegan, there were plenty of vegan options! The server also made sure to let me know that the butter, etc was vegan as well so I didn't even have to ask! Overall, Great! - Edit
This place is definitely a cool place. It's not somewhere I will be taking people who are in town visiting, nor will I be telling all my friends, but i definitely think it's cool.
Read moreI appreciate all the vegan & vegetarian options, they find so many ways to make creative food this way. I liked the lentil berry wrap, (there are not berries inside) it reminded me of an enchilada without the sauce on top.
They have meat options which I don’t understand!
I definitely did not like the vegan chicken wings, but I find seitan to be rubbery and odd. The vegan blue cheese was disappointing, it reminded me of mascarpone, completely flavorless and more like a gelatin whip.
The people working here are very kind and the atmosphere is so laid back. Definitely got the cool factor for quick cheap eats if you live nearby.
Paying is kind of awkward, cash only and you basically have to tell your server your tip at the register.
Pros: lots of options
Cons: some awkward moments
