This restaurant is more accommodating for vegetarians, since there is no vegan cheese. Therefore, if your meal typically has cheese, you have to ask to make it vegan and there is no substitutes for the dairy. But, it is still very delicious and there’s quite a few options that can be made vegan!

Nachos are yay - Edit
I’ve been there two times and ate the nachos dish every time because I very much love nachos. The ones here are really satisfying : tasty, with a lot of filling and big enough. You can also take more sauce, onions and tomatoes for free if you want.
Read moreThey’re not too pricy for the neighborhood but for the « anecdote », I looked up the menu on internet before going and saw the nachos’ price which was under 10$ and the picture was from less than a year ago. The surprise was complete when I arrived and the price was not at all was I expected. Now it’s not less than 14.50$. The prices are really going up nowadays, but not the salary huh. Ok now, I stop being bitter.
Pros: Good nachos, Free stuff to add on your plate, Nice decoration

Ate here when I was just vegetarian so not sure about how vegan items hold up but as far as my experience at that time the food was amazing! Small unassuming place that pumps out authentic tasting food!

I read some great reviews and was craving Mexican for a while, so I came to this place. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. My burrito had pretty much all rice, some guacamole and tomatoes and onions (no cilantro). It was also in tomato sauce which was okay but it did taste a bit off as well. For a side I got rice and beans so I ended up with more than half a plate of rice. It felt as the usual story where they just remove half the items for vegetarians and have no idea what they are doing when it comes tiveram food. I was to note I am NOT a picky person.

Love their vegan burrito meal! - Edit
Ahora has a tasty vegan burrito meal with a side of green salad, chips or rice for $8.50. Best vegan Mexican food deal in town imho. The burrito includes black beans, avocados, peppers, lettuce and other fixings. Ahora also has a toppings bar where you can load up on additional sauces, pico de gallo and cilantro for FREE. I’ve been going to Ahora for my vegan burrito fix since 2015. Wanted to flag to other vegans in the area.😄

The menu clearly labels all vegetarian options, and states that all vegetarian options can be made vegan upon request (usually by omitting dairy and increasing the bean content). I was very happy with this restaurant—the staff was knowledgeable about veganism and was happy to make me a delicious vegan tostado salad.

My dinner was about $13. If you want a drink, it’ll be about $8 more.

I've been here more than five times since I moved to Ottawa this year and it's by far my favourite restaurant in the area! Ahora is incredibly affordable in comparison to other downtown restaurants, and isn't usually packed like some. You are given a vegetarian option on most selections, and they are just as filling as the ones without meat! However, my personal favourite part is the salsa bar - you can choose however much salsa you want, and there are many different spice-levels to choose from. All in all, if you're a fan of affordable, vegan Mexican food then I highly recommend stopping here!
