Pizza was good

There were limited vegan options but the pizza was good. I ordered the Vegan Chorizo pizza and it was bigger than I expected so had enough for dinner plus lunch the next day.

Pros: Friendly service

Cons: Limited vegan options , Slow bar service

Nice place

Update: I’ve been going to this place many times and it’s the best, the food is good too. Good service and staff always willing to help. Had a not so great experience the first time but maybe it was just a tired waitress. Go for the pizzas or make the buddha bowl vegan by removing the feta cheese and getting a vegan dressing.

We loved it

We really liked their impossible burger, buffalo cauliflower bites, and street corn tip. Flavors and portion sizes were spot on, and service was excellent. Our server was also vegan and recommended a few other things in town - much appreciated!

Great drink selection and while a different atmosphere at in Healy vs. Anchorage - both were excellent during our trip!

Pros: Great food, Solid drinks, Engaging service

Cons: Could always add more things to their menu

Decent

Our server was rude, the food was expensive (which is everywhere in Alaska it seems), but there were a handful of available vegan options. I started with an order of fries, which were weird. Normally all fries are good fries to me, but those ones were just... weird. I got the buffalo cauliflower appetizer for my meal and it was SUPER spicy. The breading came off very easily and beneath was basically just raw cauliflower. The vegan bleu cheese that came with tasted very store-bought (I’m suspicious it was Daiya... it had *that flavor* if you know what I mean).I didn’t order any of the vegan entrees because of the price, but there were a few available.

I did have a beer flight that was really good. The atmosphere of the rooftop deck was nice.

Pros: Handful of vegan options, Lots of beer options

Cons: Expensive, Food was only decent

Omg can I say Yum!

I had the budda bowl. It’s huge and delicious. The menu clearly shows what’s vegan. And my mom-vegan family loved their food too.

Pros: Multiple vegan options on menus, Delicious

Good for the whole family

My family enjoyed the non-vegan dishes quite a bit. I really enjoyed the buffalo cauliflower and the cashew pizza had a good marinara flavor. Would love to go back and try the vegan bowl!

Great spot

49th state has friendly and attentive staff and management! Nice selection of beer and amazing vegan options. The buffalo cauliflower bites are a must try. They are so flavorful and the blue cheese dip that comes with it is amazing. I ordered a side of it to go with my pizza as well. The chocolate peanut butter tart was equally amazing. Highly recommend this spot. Slightly expensive, but this seems to be the norm around here.

Vegan pizzas and burger

Great place for family dinner or late night bites. Awesome vegan pizzas with vegan sausage and cheese. They also serve a hearty impossible burger that fooled the omnis amongst us! Try the rhubarb lemonade.

Pros: Hearty food for a cold night, Awesome vegan pizza options

Great Food

I had the impossible burger which was delicious! They also had vegan pizza and tacos on the menu. Unfortunately they ran out of the vegan tarte so I couldn’t try the dessert option.

Pros: several vegan options

Visit for the beer & Buddha bowl.

I visited twice during my stay to Alaska.

Was very pleasantly surprised the first visit. We ordered the spicy crispy cauliflower with vegan bleu cheese, which was just the right amount of crunch and flavor! The Summer Buddha Bowl is crisp, refreshing, & filling; I was informed the tahini green goddess dressing was definitely vegan. Absolutely fantastic. Most locally brewed beer today is vegan, but I asked to be sure. The waitress was confused and stated that all their beers are vegan and pointed out which ones contained honey. I ordered the Abbey Road, which was good, but was disappointed by her response.

However, on my second visit, I had the “Almost Chicken” tacos, which tasted like chicken, disconcertingly so. I asked the omni members of my group to taste and they, too, were put off by it. We hailed the waitress and asked if it was real chicken; she assured me that it was just very convincing vegan chicken, but when asked the brand, she didn’t know. I am still a little squicked by the taste. The convincing chicken may be a boon for some, but it was too convincing for my liking.

Overall, I am disappointed by their clear lack of knowledge regarding their menu. If your vegan chicken convinces omnis in the group — who have never been convinced of anything veggie tasting like meat — I would hope you would know the brand or offer to find it out. The wait staff is very friendly, but ultimately I’d suggest sticking with the Buddha bowl or cauliflower.

Pros: Friendly wait staff., Interesting selection.

Cons: Very expensive. , Lacks knowledge of items.

Don't Bother!

It's 10:30 PM and I'm sitting in the 49th State Brewing Company waiting for my food. Actually my replacement dish. I originally ordered the Summer Buddha Bowl. After waiting about 45 minutes for my food to arrived. I eagerly dropped dollops of dressing onto the contents of the bowl and dug in. My first bite was ice cold, clumpy, hard rice. My second bite was room temperature beans that were overly spiced. I ended up sending back the $21 bowl and ordering a hummus flatbread. I'm hoping to get it before midnight. On a positive note, my daughter is enjoying her baked mac and cheese. I also wanted to mention there are several vegetarian items on the menu, but only a handful of vegan items.

Pros: Wait staff is friendly. , Beautiful view from patio

Cons: Expensive, Very slow service, Food is not good

Friendly to vegans. Helpful staff.

The vegan pizza was not bad, but not outstanding. It was a little dry. Their cauliflower wings were delicious though. A little spicy but very good. I would feel comfortable coming here with a group and having options.
They also have a green goddess bowl that looked delicious but their rice has gluten in it so I couldn't eat it. Great drinks and a nice space.

2 for 2

Second spot I’ve tried from Happy Cow in AK and it’s a good one. The vegan cashew cheese pizza is great. Crispy crust but not too crispy. The cashew cheese is spot on. The beer is pretty good, too. 🙂 I’ll be back for the vegan burger later this week. Keep you posted.

Vegan options for going out with friends

They currently have two vegan pizzas on the menu, a vegan burger (it sounds delicious but it’s $25), and a few other veggie-friendly options. I liked the crispy buffalo cauliflower appetizer and my pizza was good. I got the one with Daiya cheese and will try the cashew cheese one if I come back. They do have a gf crust, too. I sat in the bar, which is understandably noisy and a little dark.
It’s a good spot if you are going out with non-veggie friends, but there are other restaurants I’d pick if I had my choice.

Pros: Vegan pizza, Vegan and gluten free options, Sitting on the deck would be nice in summer

Cons: Some vegan items are spendy, Food is good but not amazing , No vegan desserts

Served real chicken...

Don't be fooled by the vegetarian and plant-based options. Come here for beer but nothing else. Ordered a vegan pizza with vegan chick'n (as advertised on menu) and they presented me a pizza with real chicken. The server didn't even have the guts to show their face again and the manager had to come over and apologize. They comp'd the meal, which is appreciated but as a vegetarian of 15+ years there's nothing they can make up for the offense of being forced to eat real chicken. At least they apologized...but given the wait and the sketchiness, I'd recommend you try out Middle Way Cafe or somewhere else. Careful when visiting Alaska--even in urban areas, you apparently need to quadruple check that food is plant-based. Will never return.

Pros: Good beer., On water

Cons: Serve chicken to vegetarians..., Long wait., Bad service.

Fun local place with Vegan options

I really like the local (started in Healy) aspect of the brewery. The view from all levels of the building are amazing. Beer is great, nachos made vegan and VEGAN TUNDRA is very good. My non-vegan friends all approved.

very limited options.

Although there are a few vegetarian options. The only vegan option was a salad or a pizza which they were not willing to change to suit my tastes. They no longer have the Beyond Beef burger.

Decent veg options - they're trying

So, the highlight of this place is most definitely the beer, being as they're a brewery. I've never been disappointed by the brew selection, and as my tastes for brew run the gamut, so too do their options. Their selection and creativity in that realm is delightful.

I agree with a previous reviewer that seeing mounted skulls and antlers (Alaskan hunting lodge meets football team meets eatery? Eh....) is not a favorite thing, but I am happy that they specifically offer vegan and "veganizable" options. I also understand that they're going for a specific feel and image, but the...ah....ambiance...is a touch "dude-tastic", even for this burgers n' beer enthusiast; if I wanted to indulge in that sort of vibe, I'd probably go to a sports bar. But hey, that's probably the feel they're going for, since they seem to go to lengths to foster it.

The vegan pizza is pretty good, and as someone with severe reactions to anything containing casein (the protein in cheese that helps make it stringy), I can attest that their pizza dough and burger buns are dairy-free. Their burgers and fries are pretty good, and they seem more than happy to work with veg-heads on getting them options that they can eat.

My partner and I once ordered the avocado fries as an app, and those are....lacking. I like deep-fried food (and love avocado - double points, right?), but rarely indulge, since it's really, really bad for you. The avocado was way too green, even for deep-frying, and was rock-hard, even after cooking. I'm guessing that it might have just been that run of avocados, since local friends of mine cannot stop talking about them. Might give the fries another try in a month or two.

The overall impression? They really are trying to offer options for everyone, and they are trying a lot harder than the previous holders of that location did (The Snow Goose/Sleeping Lady Brewery). So, yeah, the atmosphere could be different, but they also offer really good beers, great vegan pizza, and pretty decent burgers.

Thumbs up.

Pros: Great brew selection (they are a brewery...), Good vegan options - they're really trying, Friendly staff

Cons: Noisy - can't hear across the table at times, Sportsbar-meets-hunting-lodge...not feelin' it.
